There are 42 bridges connecting the island chain of the Florida Keys with 7-Mile Bridge being the biggest at 35, 716 feet long and the shortest Harris Gap at only 37 feet long. There are dozens of old bridges not in use transformed to fishing piers during the Keys. The most famous bridge to fish in Florida is the old Seven Mile Bridge which connects Marathon to Little Duck Key in the Lower Keys. When finished in 1912 by Henry Flagler it was one of the longest bridges in the world. The original bridge was replaced in 1982 with a new modern bridge. As our luck could have it when we decided to fish, the weather turned and the fishing dropped off. On Monday I met up with my good friends Paul Lebowitz and Chris, one of the old time LJ kayak anglers. This day started off nice but with tough hunting for live bait. With lots of work we loaded the bait tanks and got to work. We lost many bait to Bonita, which although fun weren’t what we were looking for. I use each summer up in Canada so they’re proven for that fish. I carry the spinning variant in two handle styles the Rugged Flex Jr, and the Packrod, difference being the handle long or short.
