From April 1 through May 31 there’s a fish refuge from the Post Lake dam downstream 75 feet. No fishing is allowed in the refuge throughout this time period the fishing platform isn’t in this refuge area . Also, gamefish walleye, northern pike, trout season opens the 1st Saturday in May. Muskellunge season opens the Saturday before Memorial Day. Bass harvest season opens the 3rd Saturday in June. The Wolf River upstream from the Shawano paper mill dam isn’t open to year around fishing for gamefish. Panfish bluegill, crappie, perch, rock bass, bullhead, etc. can be fished year around in the Wolf River below the fish refuge. (dnr.wi.gov)

Kinnikinick Lake near Flagstaff continues to be stocked with more than 14, 000 trout placed in the last two weeks. Oliver Lake was made by the construction of the William Bacon Oliver Dam in 1940. The dam was named for Alabama congressman William Bacon Oliver. The Lake is nine miles long with a surface area of almost 800 acres. Lake recreation will include picnicking, boating, and fishing, and the bass fishing is stated to be remaining. The moving water on the lake gives an excellent habitat for catfish, striped bass, spotted bass and crappie. Bass fishing is good year-round, with the biggest typically caught from February through April when they’re near the banks.
