Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman. Com started as a group of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our 1st message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)
In early spring smelt, yellow perch, and brown trout move into Thunder Bay for action close to shore. Trollers report spring brown trout and lake trout success by pulling body baits inside 20 feet of water. In the summer smallmouth anglers target Squaw Bay, Whitefish Bay, Partridge Point, and other shallow waters. Lake trout fishing works well in 25-40 feet of water. Lake trout head for depths of 80-120 feet as the water continues to warm through summer. Anglers recognize July as the best time of year for brown trout fishing in the Thunder Bay area. The open-water begins as early as you may be able to get a ship in the water. Pre-spawn walleyes cruise the shallows in the bay right after ice-out looking for one last meal before spawning. Other walleyes that ran the rivers in the fall may have already finished spawning chores and are dropping back to recuperate in the lake. The post-spawn walleyes are hungry once they catch their breath. You ll find a bunch of heavy fish filled into the Saginaw River just before the season closes in mid-March. Most of the big hawgs, although, will be out of the river and cruising the shallows before the season opens again at the end of April. (gameandfishmag.com)

Everything is open and ice free as far as docks and fishing regions. The docks are in. The weather here was a real issue. Lots of wind ship anglers have not really been able to test the waters still. There is lots of brown water from the river system so anglers fishing from the breakwall can catch some browns or atlantics once the weather clears up some. attempt casting small spoons and body baits in chartruse and silver orange and silver, fire tiger pattern and blue and silver. I did work one day of nice weather and had over 12 anglers looking for fish but nobody was successful. (tlcbirdpreserve.com)
Kalamazoo River: Is producing some brown trout. Anglers are reminded that a one-mile stretch of the river between the City of Plainwell and the Penn Central Railroad crossing is again closed to the public for last cleanup efforts. The DNRE will use buoys and signs to alert the public of the constrained access to the influenced part of the river. The closure starts near the northern road ending of 16th Street and Baseline Road and continues northwest toward Plainwell. Access downstream of D Avenue isn’t suggested as there’s no takeout point before you reach the closed part. (Click for more info)
: Catch rates for walleye were low on the northern half of the Canadian side with anglers to get zero to three fish. The better fishing in Canadian waters was around Belle Isle. On the Michigan side, catch rates were poor. The few fish that were caught were taken in the Trenton Channel, near Mud Island and Grassy Island or on the east side of Grosse Ile. The vast most of anglers had zero to two fish. They’re bottom bouncing with crawler harnesses, hand-lining or jigging in 15 to 35 feet. Some caught yellow perch ranging seven to nine inches. Those fishing the Trenton Channel caught channel catfish. (Additional info)
These migratory troller s delight. While some fishermen target deep water, Vande Mark thinks thin along the bay s east shore. I ve found lots of walleyes in the 16- to 25-foot depth range, he says. they are better than average fish, too, running 4 to 6 pounds, with some up to 9. To catch them, he looks for food resources, like exotic gobies, which filled in gaps in walleye diets when other baitfish populations faltered, then pulls diving stickbaits on 10-pound-test line at speeds up to 1. 5 mph. Menominee: The mouth of the river was a well-liked spot for boats to anchor or trolling if there was enough room. Some walleye have been caught but the number has dropped since last week. Some brown trout were also caught. Anglers are jigging with or without minnows, trolling rapalas and crawler harnesses. Early morning and late evening were best. Those that headed south of the mouth also picked up some walleye. Those trolling off the Cedar River caught brown trout in shallow waters in front of Wells State Park when trolling rapalas or spoons. This area is full of big boulders so anglers must use caution! Early morning was best. (themorningsun.com)
I would like to MAKE A COMMENT about STOCKING. WHENEVER there’s A STOCKING IN LONG LAKE, I typically GET SOME SORT OF COMMENTS WONDERING WHY WE do not STOCK great LAKE ALSO. I don’t STOCK LONG LAKE, THE LONG LAKE affiliation DOES. THEY get the license AND DO THE FUND RAISING, AND PHYSICALLY PLANT THE FISH . Great LAKE AND VIRTUALLY ALL OTHER LAKES ARE RESPONSIBLRE FOR THEIR OWN PLANTS. AND THESE CAN ONLY BE DONE LEGALLY THROUGH DNR. IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT, OR A QUESTION, YOU have to CONTACT DNR IN GAYLORD. WE PERSONALLY AT BUCK’S BAIT SHOP could like to SEE ALL THE LAKES placed THAT NEED IT, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO SELL MORE BAIT. (bucksbait.com)
