In the spring, walleye tend to migrate into feeder streams along the Nebraska rivers to spawn. As the waters warm and the spawning season closes, walleye return to the open waters of the lakes. Small shallow lakes also supply a good place for fishing in the spring because of how much faster these waters warm up. Fishing in rocky shoreline regions of these lakes is greatly suggested. Shore casting may be used in these places throughout the spring months to produce walleye. Usually, in the lakes, walleye may be found near shallow bars, gravel ledges, or underwater structures. In the winter walleye move gradually in the cold water. (walleyefishingsecrets.com)
When winter starts off early and cold and encases Kansas Glen Elder Reservoir in a level of good, hard ice anglers have a field day catching out-sized crappies. The best ice-fishing on 12, 586-acre Glen Elder usually takes place on the west end of the reservoir, near the Cawker City Causeway. Ice conditions tend to be more stable and predictable there because it’s somewhat sheltered. Current there attracts schools of gizzard shad, which in turn draws pods of hungry crappies, walleyes and white bass. The most of crappies on Glen Elder will average 10 to 12 inches, however dinner plate-size slabs stretching 15 to 17 inches aren’t unusual. (gameandfishmag.com)
