Tulpehocken Creek Fishing Regulations

The upper fishery begin at the dam/stilling basin and picnic area. Downstream from here are the 1st of six deflectors marking the beginning of the special rules, Delayed Harvest fake Lures Only area, which extends downstream for 3. 8 miles. The deflectors were erected by the Tulpehocken Chapter of Trout Unlimited mainly to control water flow, however they also supply great habitat for trout in this stretch. This Westmoreland-Fayette county stream is another Delayed Harvest fake Lures Only part of water. It runs 1. 6 miles from the township Road 916 bridge downstream to the state path 0381 bridge. All-tackle waters are from the state Road 0381 bridge to Exit 7 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. All three species of trout were stocked in the pre-season in the waters of Indian Creek as well as 1, 260 rainbows, 1, 640 brookies and 2, 200 browns. (gameandfishmag.com)

But, I’m sure there are other cases to be made for other DHALO sections of cold-water trout fisheries.   I’m confident  fishing on the Tully has impacted our local economy.   I suspect the TCO Fly Shop could not existed if the fishery wasn’t good.   In fact, as indicated by the owner Tony Gehman, “a big our customers coming to fish this stream are from outside PA. ”  These people stay, eat and shop in the neighborhood, which is important to our local economy.   When I fish my home water, I run into people from all over the Eastern United States that come to the Tully to test their expertise on an up and coming trout stream. With the Oct. Third stocking of the Tulpehocken Creek and Scott s Run Lake on Oct. Sixth, there’s lots of opportunity to hook into some real nice rainbows and browns. Spinners and wooly buggers are hot in the Tulpehocken Creek, and minnows and bait pastes are good action at the Scott s Run Lake. Species overview: The striped bass hybrid is a hatchery-produced cross between a white bass and a striped bass. It’s stocked mainly because it tolerates warmer water than the purebred striped bass, which, as it grows older and bigger, requires well-oxygenated water throughout the summer. In Pennsylvania it’s stocked usually in the western part of the state, in reservoirs like Lake Arthur and Shenango Lake, and in the big-river area of the Ohio and Allegheny rivers near Pittsburgh. Here the hybrid usually grows bigger than the white bass. Fisheries managers in the state don’t tend to stock the striped bass hybrid in lakes and rivers that lead to Delaware or Chesapeake bays to minimize the chance of the hybrids mixing and reproducing with wild marine striped bass. Allegheny River/Allegheny Reservoir Warren County – Ice fishing on the reservoir was short-lived and restricted to the back bays, such as Red Bridge and Dunkle, because of yo-yoing temperatures. While ice lasted, anglers stated some nice, fat perch up to 13 inches and some northern pike. Action heated up on the river Feb. 3, where anglers caught walleyes ranging from sublegal to 25 inches, and released some quality trout. Because of its closeness to New York, many Warren County anglers fish Lake Chautauqua, and enjoyed about two weeks of ice fishing in January with nice yields of bluegills. (outdoornews.com)
