Decide two anchor points along the water to stretch the trotline, anchor the 1st end to a tree limb, tree root, cypress knee, or anything that will hold the line secure. Tie the line low to or just under the water surface, that makes the trotline less obvious to any by-passes. Move the ship to the next anchor point, let the trotline to lay loosely on the water and tie off the other end. Now that the trotline was set out , it may be weighed and baited. In its use in the commercial crabbing business on the Chesapeake Bay as an example, a trotline can be used as a variation of a setline. Webster’s dictionary defines a setline as being a long heavy fishing line to which some number of hooks are attached in series. A trotline is a relatively short setline used near shore or along streams. Some other common variations of a setline include limblines, throwlines, and juglines. The Virginia Department of Game & Fisheries defines a trotline as a line without a rod or reel attached that need not be held in the hand or closely attended. (en.m.wikipedia.org)
If you poles or 2 poles on the Mississippi River at any one time, the extra poles must be labeled with your full name and address. Despite of the technique or number of poles, you may not use more than a total of 33 hooks at any one time; except on the Mississippi River the maximum is 50 hooks at one time. If fishing on the Mississippi River and on other Missouri waters simultaneously, no more than 50 hooks can be used and not more than 33 on waters other than the Mississippi. Hooks on trotlines must be staged at least 2 feet separately. Hooks on any kind of line, also as the line itself, must be attended every 24 hours or removed. (mdc.mo.gov)
Non-game gross fish may be harvested using conventional sport fishing gear, however they may also be caught using commercial fishing gear, like, gill nets, trammel nets, hoop nets, slat boxes, and trotlines. A person must have a commercial fishing license to fish commercial fishing gear. Though a trotline may be fished on a sport license, a commercial license is required when fishing more than 100 hooks in aggregate or to sell fish. (Find more)

After 1st casting a hook into the water, a snagger will wait till a fish sighted, at which time they’ll reel in the hook till it’s located above the fish. Once the fish is in line with the hook, the snagger then yanks on the line to snag the fish before attempting to reel it in. When fishing in a clear river, most snaggers will be able to watch their target’s shadow or wake in the water to find out where their hooks have to be and when. To keep view of the hook, some snaggers use a brightly colored band or cloth near the hook. (en.wikipedia.org)
In texas there's no limitations on # of rods or baits anybody can have out at a time as a state guideline. Some bodies of water most, if not all, neighborhood ponds apply DO have limitations on # of rods. Download the outdoor yearly app on your phone or go get a booklet free anywhere licenses are sold, and search fishing rules under the particular body of water you're fishing. It'll tell you in special limitations. As far as many baits per rod, I’m not aware of any rules about # of baits or hooks you may be able to have on one line at a time. I could search neighborhood fishing rules for Texas if you're fishing a public pond to see if there ar any additiona limitations. (reddit.com)
Blue, channel and flathead catfish are the most usually sought catfish species in Texas. Flathead catfish are easily identified by their brown color and flattened heads. Blue and channel catfish are alike in look, although channel catfish are grey, while blue cats tend–as their name suggests– to be blueish in color. Channel catfish have some black spots on the body that blue catfish lack. Blue catfish are the biggest, sometimes exceeding 100 lbs, while channel and flathead catfish usually top out at 50 lbs. Bullhead catfish also exist in Texas; they are far smaller, rarely exceeding 3 lbs, but may be caught in great numbers, particularly in spring. (livestrong.com)
Limblining is the simplest of all alternative fishing techniques. Tie a length of strong staging line to a limb hanging over water that is got some depth to it; say, at least five or six feet deep. Change the line’s length to extend two to three feet into the water. Tie a strong hook 1/0 to 3/0 on the reverse end of the line, and add enough weight six or eight inches above the hook so the line will hang vertically under the limb. Bait the hooks in late afternoon with night crawlers, live minnows, fish chunks or some other choice catfish morsel, then check the line the next morning. Chances are you will find a feisty channel or blue cat struggling to get away. (outdoorlife.com)
Where does one get asefetida, you may ask? In the old days, we got it from our local druggist. On a whim, I went to my local drugstore last week and asked the pharmacist if he was familiar with the product. ‘surely, ‘ he said and proceeded to produce a dusty box from the back of a counter containing dozens of small boxes of ‘glycerited asafoetida, ‘ the item we used back in the 1960s. You most likely will not find it in many drugstores, however if you verify with some of the smaller establishments in rural regions, your search may prove fruitful. Asafetida also is available through some number of Internet resources. (gameandfishmag.com)
