I started other day going up to center Creek and Beaver Creek. Fishing was slow at center Creek with just one fallfish Caught. The scenery was pretty although center Creek was high but fishable. Drove over to Beaver Creek at Roxberry Road and after many hours caught a skinny rainbow trout on a black wooly bugger followed an hour afterward by a fatter trout that put up a good fight although it was only around 12-13 inches. Beaver Creek was high but fishable. With rains arriving both streams may be high and muddy by now. Fishing is better than watching reruns on TV. (dnr.state.md.us)

WSSC officials had become more and more worried that horse waste and sediment running off the equestrian trails made the drinking water more hard to treat. After objections from the local horse community, the WSSC commissioned the larger $225, 000 study of all recreational uses. Johnson said he plans to issue new rules by early March and that the WSSC s board has accepted $500, 000 to perform changes. (washingtonpost.com)
The Prettyboy Reservoir bathymetric map is depending on surveys conducted by Maryland Geological Survey in November 1997. The contour interval is 10 feet. The shoreline was digitized by the U. S. Geological Survey from 1994 digital orthophotoquadranlges. We don’t still have paper copies available of this map. When paper copies are available we’ll update this page with info on how to get them. If you can access a big-format color printer you may be able to print this map yourself from the PDF file. (mgs.md.gov)
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission constructed two dams on the major branch in the mid 20th century. Brighton Dam was constructed 96 mile from the Chesapeake in 1943, impounding the waters of Triadelphia Reservoir; in 1952 the T. Howard Duckett Dam was constructed 14 miles more downstream, near Laurel, creating Rocky Gorge Reservoir. The land bordering the two reservoirs is administered by the WSSC, creating a reserve of 4, 400 acres forested available to the public for horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and picnicking in restricted regions. Located on the Patuxent River in Maryland near the town of Brookevill, Triadelphia Reservoir or Tridelphia Lake holds a surface area of 800 acres, and was produced in 1943 by the construction of the Brighton Dam. The reservoir gives a drinking water source for the WSSC, or the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. Recreational buildings include hiking, picnicing, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and hunting. (fishermanresource.com)
PMA . The PMA is a stream buffer and transition zone inside which land uses are closely managed to decrease nonpoint source runoff and nutrient loads, and to enhance and protect stream conditions. The final goal for the main management regions along the Patuxent River and its tributaries is to preserve low-density, low-intensity land uses inside 1/4 mile of the mainstem and inside 1/8 mile of tributaries, and to actively establish a minimum 50-foot forested buffer strip along all streams. Does a great job of explaining most causes of fish kills in the region. Directly from the MDE web site – Fish kills also result from a mix of natural and human induced stresses in the environment. Some number of elements may add and act synergistically to overload stress tolerance levels and induce a fish kill. Common stress factors may include population stress crowding, spawning stress, reduced food abundance, extreme temperatures or sudden temperature change, parasite burdens, high or low pH, low oxygen levels caused by sewage or extreme algae fueled by nutrient enrichment, salinity stress, degenerative toxin levels as well as metals and organics, and drought. Disinfect live wells daily and especially when moving between bodies of water. Spray or clean all surfaces with a chlorine solution, let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse with clean water and flush through lines and pumps. Bleach is toxic to aquatic life forms. Discharge the solution in a grassy area where it’ll not now drain into streams or ponds. An efficient chlorine solution may be prepared by putting three tablespoons of household bleach in one gallon of water. Use the chlorine solution to clean trailers and other parts of the ship – just make sure to rinse well with clean water. (genemuellerfishing.blogspot.com)
The bulk of this subseries consists of communication between the different persons accountable for the editing of the journals Tidewater News, Copeia, and Chesapeake Science. Communication between Mansueti and authors seeking publication in those journals is broad, as is the communication between Mansueti and reviewers of articles. Also, this subseries will include yearly lists of publications by the Maryland Department of Education and Research and project suggestions for the Maryland Tidewater News. Most of the documentation relates to Mansueti s positions as managing editor of Chesapeake Science and ichthyological editor of Copeia. (lib.umd.edu)
