I live so let us start there. From Lock 8 westward, the river offers great smallmouths, and shoreline fishing is available at many places, as well as at the navigational locks that are part of the state barge canal. If you want to attempt some fishing out of a small ship, there are a couple of good launch sites, as well as Lock 10 in Cranesville. With a little research, you may be able to find lots of fishing spots; just be cautious near the locks and follow all the rules avoid the dams . (timesunion.com)
I live in coxsackie and fish the coxsackie resevoir nearly every night after work with my wife and son. There are good fish in there but you certainly can not put a conoe/ship of any kind in there, unless you want to get tossed in the slammer for the night that’s. Another downside is that you need an extra permit to fish there which is $10 and you must get it at the village building throughout regular business hours. (alloveralbany.com)
Located just Albany, this 35-acre lake also called Six Mile Waterworks is one of the best for shore-fishing in the neighborhood. It offers panfish, largemouth bass and trout. A favorite spot for local kids summer tournaments, it has accommodated as many as 300 youngsters tossing bobbers and worms on the same day all along its open shoreline. If you ve been there recently, those adults you see fishing hard are trying to hook up with some of the 2, 000 rainbow trout recently stocked there. There s no fee for fishing and lots of parking. I drive. There’s no bus, and if you wanted to bike it it’s like 13 miles straight uphill. If you may be able to't drive, there’s also Peebles Island which is on the merge of the Mohawk and Hudson and somewhat close to a bus line. I haven't fished there, however I did lots of people fishing there when I worked there. All of the good fishing spots I can think of are a ways away if you don't have a car. (reddit.com)

The Valatie Kill watershed is the site of the Dewey Loeffel landfill, a heavily contaminated former dump that received hazardous wastes from 1953 to 1970. As indicated by the NYSDEC, The contagion of Nassau Lake and its watershed with PCBs is of concern at this site. Off-site environmental and biota fish sampling continue to show elevated levels of PCBs. The NYSDOH advises against eating fish from Nassau Lake and the Valatia Kill upstream of the lake. But, levels of PCB in sediment are low and recreational use of the lake isn’t constrained. A hydrogeologic investigation has confirmed that groundwater is influenced in an area south of the site which was earlier thought to be outside the drainage area. (renstrust.org)

The work is great but may be tough and stressful – I am encouraged by mentors as are all of my cohorts to find modes of ‘self-care’… taking care of my physical, mental and emotional stress throughout a period of full-time school, managing a family and a complex internship job. everyone has their personal needs by ‘self-care’. taking time to look around me, photograph and write not pulitzer prize winning material – just thoughts on paper are ways i can keep up that ‘self-care’. so here goes…. 1 WXLH, Blue Mountain Lake, 91. 3. This site is on the summit of Blue Mountain… electrical service to the top is via a 2 mile overhead power line installed in the 1950’s to power the former DEW radar site on Blue. This line has generally been a problem, we have installed some big batteries at the site which give WXLH about 15 hours of backup power… there’s no generator at the site caused by environmental, space and engineering issues. I spoke today with a NYSEG agent who said that they tried re-connecting the power to the summit Monday night, however it only stayed on for a minute before blowing the fuses. (Find out here)
