Fishing for cutthroat trout, lake trout and whitefish was good. The ‘rockpile’ off Ideal Beach was good for both trout and whitefish. The whitefish are primarily taken right over the rocks in depths of 40 to 50 feet. Trout are found in water depths of 50 to 75 feet in the same general area. Other good spots this week have been along the highway pull-offs south of Gus Rich Point in water from about 50 to 70 feet deep for trout. The rockpiles just north of the Bear Lake State Park marina have not had lots of pressure this week, however the anglers fishing them are catching some nice-sized cutthroats. (utahfishfinder.com)
MILL HOLLOW are seeing good success for trout. Most are using conventional baits and lures. Fishing pressure is light throughout the week, and a bit heavier on weekends. Once the application is received, a UDWR biologist will visit the pond to be sure that it is not situated on a naturally flowing stream. The biologist will also check to be sure that permanent screens are installed on the inflows and outflows, to keep fish from moving out of the pond. Screens must be small enough to stop small fish from leaving the pond, however small mesh frequently becomes plugged with debris. It is the pond owner’s responsibility to keep the screens clean, so they may want to ask a UDWR biologist for suggestions about the best screen designs. (backcountry-utah.com)

Weather is driven by air pressure, temperature and moisture differences between one place and another. These differences can happen caused by the sun’s angle at any specific spot, which differs by latitude from the tropics. The strong temperature contrast between polar and tropical air gives rise to the jet stream. Weather systems in the mid-latitudes, like extratropical cyclones, are caused by instabilities of the jet stream flow. Because the Earth’s axis is tilted relative to its orbital plane, sunlight is incident at different angles at different times of the year. On Earth’s surface, temperatures typically range 40 C ’40 F to 100 F annually. (breakingnews.com)
