Tellico Lake Crappie Fishing Report

I am have been reading the crappie reports for a while now and there is not been much activity here on what is going on Tellico lake. I crappie fish Tellico at least twice a week from Jan to June and in all kinds of manors. Recently the fish have suspended 6-8′ deep in 10-14′ of water with the water warming up to a high or 54 on the 11th but, I am sure that it is gone down some with the last cool snap that we have had.  . 2-12 Feet Moderating Bass are biting a little better this week. Some are hitting spinnerbaits. Chartreuse and white skirts are a good color choice. Soft plastics are doing just now also. Beavers and chigger craws are catching some good smallmouth and largemouth and the best color choice for those is green pumpkin. Minnow imitating crankbaits, like Shad Raps and Rattle Traps are catching some keeper bass. Buzzbaits, Zara spooks, and Torpedoes are good early morning topwater choices. Main points seem to be holding the most of the bigger bass, particularly if there are some lay down trees or another submerged structure close. (lakeloudounliving.com)

Fish the big grass area on the right side of the river going downstream toward the steam plant. Run electric motors to remain silent and follow and fish the openings that cut through the vegetation. Use crappie spinner for both species tipped with a green trailer. Minnows and a bobber are really the trick for crappie. Crappie spinners and grubs are irresistible to redear. Use spinners tipped with red or yellow trailer if the water is clear. Green is the best bet for stained water. All that being said the plain old red worm is the favored bait. Most likely the best lake in East Tennessee, 38, 000-acre Watts Bar has the best of just about everything. Largemouth and smallmouth are the big draws, with the April-June period the peak fishing for largemouth and October-December being best for smallmouth. Though the lake is subject to the same summer doldrums that plague other Tennessee reservoirs, nighttime bass fishing in July and August ranks with the best in the state. Crappie fishing in the spring is good on Watts Bar, as is the sauger fishing. October and November are the best times for striped bass, however big stripers are caught year-round. (knoxnews.com)

‘The smallmouth summer pattern will be humps and ledges, ‘ says guide Lou Williams. ‘they will feed in the shallowest water in the neighborhood they are using. If it is a hump, they will feed over the hump. Smallmouth do not feed in 20 or 30 feet of water but they may be caught there. ‘The time they feed depends on the current. If there’s current, then the odds go up for feeding in center part of the day, from 11o’clock to 2 o’clock. That is what brings the big boys out. If there’s no current then the best time will be early and late in the day. My best days are when the skies are high, with an eight- to 10-mile per hour south wind, and current. I went to the Phillips 66, called the Parkway Grocery to get lunch our lunch.   Most anglers know the Parkway Grocery is famous for their chili dogs. That store is owned by Steven, Lowell’s nephew.   There, I ran into Ronnie, our Townsend Police Chief.   he’s an avid walleye fisherman.   In fact, Ronnie got Lowell into walleye fishing.   Ronnie has invited me to go with him and one day I’ll.   I haven’t used a spinning rod in decades but I’m surely wanting to do so. Many fish have been caught at about the 20 to 25-foot depth vary from Black Fox Creek to the Anderson County Park surrounding area.
