Let the toward shore, taking up the slack as it travels shoreward. You need not be elaborate with your bait, clam necks, shrimp or sand worms work great. They are the types of materials the fish often see the waves dredge up from the bottom. To hook up your setup, run an egg sinker up the major line. Attach a barrel swivel to prevent the weight from moving down to the hook. To the other end of the swivel, attach about 18 to 24 inches of leader terminating on a bait hook. This lets you to stay near the bottom, while your bait will rise just above it. You’ll know once you hook into one of these fish. (whidbeynewstimes.com)
I fish all the time in and around the sound. Salmon fishing was really good this year around whidbey island. I have nearly filled my 1st catch card already. For salmon off the beach i use a 10’6" medium action shimano pole and a 5501 abu reel. 12 lbs test ande. I have never had a problem with that setup. A lot of people favor 8 ‘ to 9’ poles. Whatever suits ya! I have a couple 6000 size abu’s which are great but casting all day, the 5000 size is a bit more comfy. My opinions although. For the flounder and perch we generally break out the trout setups. Really light tackle makes it a fun fight. (stripersonline.com)
Courtesy and respect for private property are essential if anglers hope to preserve access to some spots. Simultaneously, hundreds of miles of shoreline along the inland marine are publicly owned, and most of that’s unexplored by anglers. Lincoln Park, Golden Gardens and Carkeek Park in Seattle frequently are fly-fished by anglers. Any park with saltwater access — Deception Pass, South Whidbey, Fort Flagler, Camano, Manchester, Penrose Point and other state parks — is a possible beach-fishing site. (seattlepi.com)
Just for trout in Green, Angle and Beaver in King County; single and Cranberry in Island; American in Pierce; and Spencer in Mason. Rufus Woods Reservoir and Lake Roosevelt are top eastside choices for trout. Lake Chelan is pretty good for lake trout, kokanee and rainbow trout. Moses Lake is just for perch and walleye. Southwest Washington lakes placed early in the month were fight Ground, Fort Borst Park Pond, Kidney, Klineline, Maryhill Pond, Rowland and Spearfish. Decent at times for cutthroat trout in Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. (seattletimes.com)
Indiana Gazette, Pennsylvania – At the Resort Plaza Walmart in Indiana, Pennsylvania people can save a dollar and seemingly waste a buck, also. Arcangelo Bianco Jr. Was doing some banking at the Walmart back on November 26th when he spotted a big 10 point whitetail run around the corner of the store and across the parking lot. He quickly jumped out of his truck with a handgun and began firing many rounds at the animal. After effectively harvesting the big whitetail he loaded the deer in the back of his truck and took it to a local processor. Also to having a parking lot full of eyewitnesses the incident was captured on Walmart s surveillance cameras. (theoutdoorline.com)
This is a setup used on Whidbey island to catch steelhead while beach fishing. This setup may also be trolled in shallow water along the beaches. Steelhead travel in 4-6′ of water close to shoreline. Recently a friend was perch fishing in the surf with clam necks and caught a 12# winter run steelie on the Washington Coast. A couple of different fishing techniques may be used. A slow retrieve or a plunking style in the surf. Be sure to check your rules before fishing in the saltwater since they’re different than the local streams. (steelheader.net)
This past Wednesday I had the pleasure of fishing with old time friend Jeff Witkowski of Darrel & Dad's Family Guide Service on Lake Chelan. Jeff was wanting me to come over and sample the Winter Kokanee fishing for quite some time. After taunting me with photos of some remaining catches this past month I made the choice to go. So Tuesday afternoon my friend Keith Yamaguchi and I made the trek over the mountains to Manson. After a good nights sleep we meet Jeff at the Mill Bay launch at sunrise, quickly loaded our gear onto his ship and proceded up lake to where he had found fish earlier in the week. Salmon will be open for hatchery chinook for some days in May and from June 22-28th. The season for coho and pink salmon which are the main fly fishing targets opens June 29th and runs till the quota is caught or mid-September. The local fishing in the Strait of Juan de Fuca looks great with alike seasons to last summer and a couple extra pinks added to the bound. We haven’t seen the exact dates still but the pink salmon fly fishing should be great for ship anglers from Sekiu to Ediz Hook and the Eastern Strait in July and August. The coho will follow and we should remain open into October. (waterswest.com)
When lots of people think of fishing in the greater Seattle area, salmon is the 1st fish that comes to mind. Locals have favorite places to fish for salmon and the area of Puget Sound near Everett is one of them. Chinook are most easily caught early in the morning or late in the evening when they cruise close to shore between 20 and 120 feet below the surface of the water, as indicated by WDFW. Blackmouth are small Chinook salmon typically found inside 10 feet of the bottom and are frequently smaller than the 22-inch minimum obliged in the Everett area. Coho and pink are two other species usually found in the neighborhood. (extremesports.cc)
Biologist Gallie continued with spring deer structure counts in Chelan County this week. The goal being to look at adult and fawn ratios and presumed winter kill seriousness. Caused by this winter s conditions, we don’t expect an unusually high winter kill. With 10 of the 13 routes finished, ratios are falling inside normal survival ranges at 46 fawns per 100 adults. Spring counts also let for the identification of obvious hairloss syndrome that’s present in the Chelan County herd and its geographic distribution. Far, hairloss was documented in on each path this hasn’t increased recognized distribution, with roughly 6 of the observed deer show evident signs. (nwsportsmanmag.com)
