Hey guys, I will be heading up to Wildwood this weekend with some friend’s. I have only surf fished some times as I am more of a ship fisherman. Anyway does anybody have any reports on how the surf fishing was? I know we have been catching lots of blues recently on my ship. Also anybody know in surf fishing rules on the beaches? let me know, any info will be useful. Thanks guys. (stripersonline.com)
Over at Fisherman’s World I spoke to Jeremy this week and he said that there’s still a pretty good herring bite taking place in the Harbor. The fish are showing a slight preference for smaller Sabiki rigs he suggested size 6 hooks for your best shot. Otherwise the striper bite in the Housy is still a viable choice but the bite is tough. The fish are schooled up in the deeper water as projected in February an this is when they begin to get a sever case of lock-jaw. On occasion a warm snap like the one predicted for this week can trigger them into feeding so this may be a good call if you are wanting to wet a line in the next few days. (thefisherman.com)
Fluke may be caught in the inshore waters as early as March with many astute anglers aiming at and releasing them well before the season opens where fluke may be retained. Fluke will feed in the backwaters and bay waters from them till the water temps rise too high in the summer. In spite of the abundance of bait in that venue, a most of the fluke 1st shift to deeper pools and channels, then towards the inlet, then out to the oceanic feeding stations. A need for all species of fish to stay in their water temperature tolerances is a main driver of species migrations. Some big fluke, but, will continue to feed in the backwaters well into the summer and fall. (njsaltwaterfisherman.com)
From the Commodore Barry Bridge freshwater license line to the New York state border. Spawning takes place in the lower river up to the path 1 Bridge in Trenton. Ship anglers dominate the river south of Trenton as it’s large, tidally influenced, and deep. It’s believed that the striped bass that continue to migrate farther up river are feeding on a spawning population of river herring and American shad that precede them. Big stripers have been caught in the Delaware River well up into New York State. From Trenton north, wading, shoreline fishing also as fishing from a ship are all used to pursue stripers. Most piers communities are constructed out over bay waters and lie along the western shores of the barrier islands that are home to Cape May County beach towns. A large range of fish species, also as blue crabs, are caught from these bayside piers. Available from May through October or November are black sea bass, bluefish, fluke, kingfish, striped bass, tautog or blackfish, weakfish and white perch. Black drum are typically biting in May and June, while bonito run from July through September. Croaker and dolphin typically are available from July through October. (traveltips.usatoday.com)
Sunday’s action was GOOD after a tough Saturday. November 2015 was the best Striper month in years! Water temps are warm and lots of fish are North of us on there way down the coast. We can get some more weeks in maybe fish to New Years. Hi-hook was Bert with 12+ Bass plus some Blues. Many had their keeper under 43 fish plus a bonus tag fish. Only some shorts released as most were Bonus or Keeper size today. Again the Tsunami Swim Shads 5 – 7 worked best! be sure you pick some up before heading down. Weather looks tough Monday, so NO SAIL MONDAY! Thursday & Friday look best this week. (newjerseyshore.com)
The tidal prediction for Wildwood is just that, a well educated guess depending on years of observed data. Many factors will influence the tide tables at Wildwood as well as local winds and pressure systems. A margin of error of at least 10 minutes is to be projected with any forecast and its this level of accuracy we aim to accomplish. Data quality differs by port and country: big western commercial ports will be correct, small Asian fishing villages are most likely going to be somewhat less correct. If you think the tide tables at Wildwood are wildly innacurate let’s know tell us what source you’re comparing us with . (magicseaweed.com)
The flesh of flounder is pure white and fragile to the taste. They may be prepared in a countless of ways as well as sautéed, fried, backed, broiled, and in soups like bouillabaisse or chioppino. Prepared new, the same day they’re caught, they’re marvelous and should be cooked so that their fragile flavor isn’t overpowered. attempt sautéing in butter with some olive oil and tarragon a green-leaf herb that has a hint of anise/licorice flavor . Sauteeing in butter and olive oil with parsley and lemon and a touch of white wine also works on the freshest of flounder. (Get more information)
Capt. Ray Szulczewski, a local fly fisherman who charters his ship Tide Runner out of Cape May, was one of the captains who had to cancel most of their appointments last weekend caused by high winds. He said when he did get out, the action was good for both fly and turn anglers. Along the beachfront he caught usually blues, some stripers, sea herring and some weakfish. In the back bay it was usually small stripers. Chartreuse/white clousers and deceiver flies worked well for the fly anglers, and YoZuri and Bomber swimming plugs with some rubber baits caught for the turn anglers. (shorenewstoday.com)
But standards aren’t normal in the St. Johns River this year. As an example, the redfish bite in the river is red-hot now. They are brackish water fish. One guide caught four while aiming at catfish in Dunn s Creek this week. Another caught six reds near Pacetti Point and said every fish was slot-sized. Commercial catfish guys are going to lighter hooks so the reds on their setlines will bend them out, rather than hooking and killing the fish. (staugustine.com)
