After a nightlife does not seem too appealing for most Boothbay visitors. The Boothbay Playhouse and Theatreside restaurant offer summer productions. Their summer clambakes with conventional singers and fiddlers seemed more fun, and less forced. The Carousel Music Theatre runs to old-time Broadway and Vaudeville from May to October. One suspects videos fill winter entertainment needs. But, one old Lobsterman noted that, "we use up all winter discussing last summer’s tourists. " Given the superb scenery, bracing sea air and uniquely "Down East" chance to relax and recreate, it is certain that the tourists — those who do not fish –will continue to school in Boothbay each year. A trip with Sweet Action is sure to be one of the highlights of your stay in Maine, if you are an experienced angler or a beginner. An outing usually begins someplace in Boothbay Harbor with a short ship ride to fish for the Macks the mackerel that will be used as bait for the day’s true prize, the feisty striped bass or the frantic bluefish based on the tides and when you decide to leave, this is a chance to see a beautiful Maine dawn or sunset. Jigging a silver cigarette shaped tempt, it isn’t unusual for two anglers to catch thirty 6 to 12 Macks in less than fifteen minutes. If the Mackerel are more spread out, Captain Wolotsky will reach into his bag of tricks to be sure that we have some of these striper delicacies on-board. (sweetactioncharters.com)
Anyway I got a friend that’s new to striper fishing he caught his 1st slot sized fish when I was there, and we got into a lot of small fish but it was fast and fun. So he told me that he’s going to Boothbay soon and I could like to relay him some good information if he needs it. I am really not the type to ask, I like just looking around myself but If any body may help it could be cool. It seems like there are a lot of great spots. He’s usually shorebound and has his family with him. He’s also taking his boys mackeral fishing. (stripersonline.com)
The 12th yearly BRFGA yearly Salt Water Tournament of August eighth & nineth, 2015 was a success in spite of challenging fishing. In the youth division mackerel and pollock came in by the bucketful. Andrew Meader’s 15” mackerel claimed the 1st place followed by Joey Gray’s 13. 5”. Courtney Meader took 3rd, Drew Stevens 4th, and Tommy Gray 5th. Danny Gray’s 13” and Liz Ochs 12 3/4” pollock were good for 1st and second. (boothbayregionfishandgame.com)

Had just finished 48 hours of frustration when we spoke as Charlie pulled a no-show! it looks that the herring purse seiners sniffed out the bait on inshore humps and once they cleaned out the bait so went the bluefin. Chad recommends you target regions they haven t decimated like those where rolling closure rules kept them out. Mackerel and harbor pollock may be found by The Sisters and the 2KR Buoy but some may say, Who cares ! The reason is that sharpies are slamming the stripers on squid! A patron of the shop loaded up on 60 squid the other night and couldn’t get a three-way rig to the bottom without the squid to get inhaled and he was soon out of bait! Plumb depressions during the Piscatagua River with three-wayed squid and you may have alike results. (onthewater.com)
This morning and cruised downriver to prospect for fish that we suspected could be feeding in the fast ebbing tide…I did not take too long before we were tight to the 1st fish, a healthy ocean bright fish that slammed a RonZ jig that we were skipping off the bottom near a big sandbar. We covered a bunch of water today and not amazingly we had the best action when we found warmer water and a mix of Britt herring and alewives. It is still early in the striper season here in Maine but we’re underway. Info that I will offer this week are to get out and fish the outgoing tides in the tidal rivers…look for regions of warmer water and work the methodically. (superfly-charters.com)
Sea Venture Charters specializes in offshore fishing for sharks and Giant Bluefin Tuna. Our shark fishing trips are typically most productive from mid-July through August when the sharks migrate through Maine waters. They are all-day trips and involve chumming the sharks to the ship. Our clients fight the fish on stand-up rods, and the sharks are brought on board through the transom door for measurements, photos and tagging. Giant Bluefin Tuna fishing begins in June and continues through late summer and into October. Tuna are unpredictable but are most likely the most thrilling fish to catch on rod and reel.
