Striped bass bite best throughout low light conditions and particularly during the night. A gloomy, dismal day is really a great time to fish for stripers. If it s bright and sunny, your chances of catching them are best throughout the early morning hours. Stripers aren’t native to the Pacific coast but thanks to successful stocking programs their migrating range is from southern British Columbia to northern Mexico. They ve also been stocked in some big U. S. Freshwater reservoirs ensuing in thriving populations this has presented an in-land striper sport fishery. They have also been cross-bred with the freshwater white bass and that result was successful. (striped-bass.wikidot.com)

SOCB had a tourney. The bite was tough. Everyone had trouble to get keepers. There were quite some dinks caught, however after the AM bite, the wind just never came up, and so no fish turned on for the afternoon bite. So it was a beautiful day and hot with only a light breeze. Needles to say, both Brian and I were based on the wind for our prefish patterns jerkbaits, spinners and rip baits . I had also found a lot of fish stacked out deep on the secondary points with big bait balls. The low pressure and rain must have changed that, becouse they weren’t there. The water had come up 5 feet or so, so the grass wasn’t matted like before, so the frog bite wasn’t there. (Get more info)

Then came figuring out the dang fish. Putting my Saltwater mentality to them it quickly became obvious I was trying to treat them like a Largemouth or Catfish looking for them in cover and to shallow. I went on the Seabass mentality of Flats! So I started looking for major lake points with big flats as part of them and all of the sudden I was catching fish and this time on function. But I was not happy there I wanted the big ones, so I took a trip out to Martha’s Vineyard and the Home of striper fishing the Chesapeake Bay and talked to the captains out there and listened to them. Paddle Notes: Silverwood Lake is an very well-liked weekend getaway. There are some drawbacks to this pretty paddling retreat: the long entrance line; the long wait to launch; the powerboat and jet ski traffic on the lake; the unpredictable winds; and the crowded beach area throughout the summer months. If at all possible throughout the summertime, paddle this lake on a weekday to avoid the crowds, the watercraft congestion and the long lines because you really don t want to miss out on paddling this scenic mountain lake. That leaves the last obstacle, the fierce erratic winds that usually happen. (paddlingcalifornia.com)
8-12 foot range using lines of 7-9 kg 15-30 lb test monofilament or equivalent diameters of braid. Some surf-fisherman do not like to use braids because it’ll cut easily on rocks but recent advancements in braid are making it more satisfactory in the fishing community. High vis line is best in blitz situations when it’s important to see your line. Plastic lures like bombers, redfins, yozuris all work. When picking a tempt, the profile of the fish you’re trying to imitate and the movements of the tempt are more important than the color—striped bass don’t have the same rods and cones as a human eye.
