This past pleasure of fishing with old time friend Jeff Witkowski of Darrel & Dad's Family Guide Service on Lake Chelan. Jeff was wanting me to come over and sample the Winter Kokanee fishing for quite some time. After taunting me with photos of some remaining catches this past month I made the choice to go. So Tuesday afternoon my friend Keith Yamaguchi and I made the trek over the mountains to Manson. After a good nights sleep we meet Jeff at the Mill Bay launch at sunrise, quickly loaded our gear onto his ship and proceded up lake to where he had found fish earlier in the week. , retired state fish biologist from Marysville and an expert on cutts in north sound rivers. Sturgeon fishing has improved in the Columbia downstream of Bonneville Dam, and the next some number of weeks are usually the prime period for bank anglers to catch one there. Lakes Washington and Sammamish are good now for smallmouth bass and perch, and the former also is good for its big inhabitant cutthroat. Smelt are being taken in good numbers by anglers on the pier at Cornet Bay on Whidbey Island. (seattlepi.com)
The Olympic Peninsula also has some unbelievable fishing opportunities on rivers like the Bogachiel, Hoh, and Sol Duc. Having spent many years behind the oars on these streams, it’s generally a treat to share the experience and thrill of fishing the coastal rivers. Looking for a trophy King or Steelhead? do not let the term stream trick you, The OP rivers are recognized for putting out some monster fish. All fishing gear and bait is made available. We use only high Quality gear like Gloomis, Lamiglas and Shimano. Mainly we use a 22 foot Fish- Rite jet sled for bigger rivers and a 20 foot Koffler drift-ship, which gives comfort and an excellent fishing platform. (skagitriverfishingguide.com)
From what I can tell using Google Maps the trip down and out into Port Susan was most likely 6 miles both ways. The line in the Innies and Outties map stops at about 3 miles. We made out more into Port Susan and headed north towards Stanwood, then back the same path more or less. But the mud flats had changed lots on the way back so it was a get out and drag or carry the gear lots. Then the way back the mouth of the river there was some warmth in a tiny little slough. Cowlitz: Fishing was about the same not red-hot, however the anglers putting in their time are picking up some springer chinook, Borsom said. Eggs and sand shrimp still seem to be most efficient near the barrier dam. Boaters are using divers with coon striped shrimp or eggs. Borsom said they have been hearing reports of more summer-run steelhead being taken in the lower river and they’re chrome bright. Corkies and yarn or sand shrimp seem to be working for the bank anglers. (theolympian.com)
Wildlife looking at: Birders are flocking to Marymoor Park in Redmond, where a couple of rare flycatchers have been spotted recently. A Least flycatcher was seen – and heard – many times in some cottonwoods north of the bulletin board on the slough trail, while an ash-throated flycatcher was sighted at the East Meadow. Both flycatchers are unusual visitors to western Washington, though they may be found east of the Cascades. Least flycatchers – the smallest flycatchers found in Washington – are frequently seen in Okanogan County. The most of ash-throated flycatchers may be found in southcentral Klickitat County, though some pairs have been documented in Yakima, Kittitas, Chelan, Grant and Adams counties. (kbkw.com)
Only recently have we really understood how priceless estuaries and salt marshes are to the complete marine food chain. Decades of logging, farming and home-building altered most of our shoreline. Today, only some precious pockets of marsh and coastal wetland habitat remain. The Audubon Society has chosen Port Susan Bay an Important Bird Area. State, tribes and private organizations are working to protect many sections of this bay’s shoreline. With public understanding and support of their efforts, future generations will continue to take pleasure in the beauty and diversity of birds, fish, marine mammals and other wildlife that make Port Susan Bay such a magical place to live and visit. 8. Stillaguamish. On Stillaguamish River across river from village 10 and present town of Florence . Possibly 460 people lived here mid-1800s. This was place of a "strong" house for storing blankets, furs, etc. The house was built of big logs set on end with heavy cedar slabs for a roof. A trench was build around the house with sharply pointed stakes placed at the bottom. The trench was thinly covered so that invaders could fall into it and be impaled. Tract containing village houses was homesteaded by settler Gardner Goodridge. 2, 9 . (coastsalishmap.org)
The summer season on the mainstem Columbia River from the Astoria-Megler Bridge upstream to Bonneville Dam will firstly be open from June 16 through July 6 for hatchery summer chinook and sockeye. The daily bound will be two adult salmonids chinook and steelhead must be adipose fin-clipped . All sockeye are considered adults in the daily bound. Staff will monitor the fishery and possibly change the July part of the fishery, which may include extending the season or allowing retention of any adult chinook. (portofilwaco.com)
