Grindstone Creek Swamp and follows an S-shaped path to its confluence with Burlington Bay. The Niagara Escarpment at Waterdown effectively separates the fish communities inside Grindstone Creek. Downstream of the Escarpment, the creek supports some inhabitant and migratory fish species while the fish community upstream of the Escarpment is constrained to inhabitant fish species. Unlike the other big watercourses inside the Conservation Halton watershed, the mouth of Grindstone Creek hasn’t been impacted by harbour development. Consequently, its estuary gives important wetland habitat for some fish species ands hosts the only important spawning run of northern pike inside the Conservation Halton watershed. . At its headwaters, Bronte Creek is a cold water stream with a healthy brook trout and brown trout population. The creek goes primarily through private land at its beginnings, and access is restricted. Make sure to look for landowner permission before entering private property. Lower reaches for the most part are easily available as the river goes through populated regions where the major access is through park land. (flyfishontario.ca)
Called the Crown Jewel of Southern Ontario . The upper Credit River is our expertise. In fact, our 1st cast with a fly rod over 30 years ago was made in this part of the Credit River. Though there are good numbers of wild brook trout, brown trout and inhabitant rainbows, this is a technical river with weary wild trout that spook at the slightest sound. Predictable hatches, great scenery and easy to read water make this part a must attempt for any trout angler. The Credit River has various types of water from fast fast sections to meandering meadows. Check out our pictures from the Credit river below. (Check it out)
Anglers can dream all they want about taking a trip to some exotic lodge, or hiring a charter for a body of water they have hardly fished, however the lifelong passion that can grow from this sport begins at home. Any anglers’ region has lakes, rivers, or ocean to fish from, and over time the more you attempt them out, the more you will grow an affinity with some place. Developing a home lake is much like rewatching a favorite movie: regardless how many times you have seen it, you still get enjoyment out of it, and every once in a while, you see something new. The western basin of Lake Ontario from the mouth of the Niagara River to Whitby is a world class place to catch trophy Chinook Salmon. It isn’t strange for anglers to catch 25-30 lb fish in this area. also to Chinook salmon, the lake also features Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout Steelhead, Carp and Bass. The lake has a maximum depth of 244 m, and average depth of 86 m. Prime fishing times are from late May till late October. Check fishing rules for what is in season. There are some places where you may be able to fish from the shoreline along Lake Ontario as well as LaSalle Park Marina and the Canal at the Lift bridge. (tourismburlington.com)
Time will tell what will become of Bronte Creek, however the builders have lobby groups that are the best in the world. Big powerful builders like Mattamy usually get what they want, in spite of public outcry from special interest groups or tree huggers. I do believe that Bronte Creek will serve a alike fate as Grindstone Creek by 2030. I really hope that I’m wrong and a miracle happens, however miracles are few and far between. (Visit the website)
Experiment! change your presentation if the fish are heavily pressured. Move around. If you haven t hooked anything at a specific spot in a half hour, or so, move to the next hole or fish a different part of the hole you re in. Having spent lots of time on the water, I have noticed that the anglers with the least amount of success on the water are the anglers who are usually scared to change and experiment with their presentation. There’s nothing to lose by changing your presentation – other than some fish possibly. (pautzke.com)
The best technique of catching migratory rainbow trout is by drifting freshly tied spawn sacks with either rainbow trout or salmon eggs. Drift fishing with a sensitive float, or bouncing the bottom with a couple of split shot sinkers typically produces its part of fish. Anglers may also do well casting and retrieving lures in the deeper pools and off the piers. In my experience some of the best lures for casting are: the Luhr Jensen KwikFish in sizes #5 and #7, Lil’Cleo spoons in 1/4-1/2 oz. Size, and the Blue Fox Vibrax spinners in sizes #2 and #4. The Bronte Creek Watershed Renewal Program is a big scale project that was chosen as one of five projects Trout Unlimited Canada wanted to begin across Canada. An remarkable amount of stream restoration has occurred in this park, improving the water quality, the quality of fish habitat, and the in general ecosystem function. From man-made riffles to narrowing of the stream and bank stabilization, this stretch of Bronte Creek was transformed into a much healthier stream than in the past. The best measure of the improvement in this creek was the 1st documented sightings of brook trout in 55 years. (argosgirloutdoors.com)
The center sector through Kitchener to the bottom end of Brantford is home to both course fish and trout. Steelhead that use Whitmans Creek and The Nith River for spawning and nursery but travel the major stem from Dunnville on Lake Erie to the town of Paris where more migration is banned caused by an impassable dam. By both numbers and the quality of fish, the great River is regarded as one of the most important steelhead fisheries in the east but in spite of this, the river receives little pressure. As a bonus but not to be trivialized, the sector through the town of Paris is home to a distinctive, semi-inhabitant population or rainbow trout. (ontarioflyfishing.ca)
