The summer flounder, or ‘fluke, ‘ a flatfish is found in coastal waters from the southern Gulf of Maine to Florida. Like other species of flatfish, the fluke has both eyes on one side of its head and rests on the ocean floor on its side. The fluke is called a left handed flatfish because its eyes are on the upper surface of the head when the fish is facing left. Speckled Trout – they re in the rivers and bayous. The Trout are there – so to catch them you re going to have to slow way down. Smaller leader is a must when you re fishing the bayous where the water should be Gin clear. The rivers, well that s going to be a different story this February. We ve had an extreme amount of rainfall in December and January so the rivers may be too high and muddy to fish. If it s fishable, going to 15 pound test in the rivers is okay.      Kayak Mike did well some number of times at the river mouths after Christmas but not so much recently.   Rivers are overflowing and wild as we speak.   Great for white water rafting not too good for fishing.   Roy went out after three weeks with Bill Lang on Thursday, 40 degrees @ 7am -11am,   they caught 11 trout to 8lbs.   Released all big fish, however kept them in the camera.   practice fish conservation when you may be able to.  . The next stop is less than a mile to the north under the George G. Tapper Bridge over the Gulf County Canal. Follow the paved road under the north side of the bridge, then turn onto a sandy road leading back under the bridge to the mouth of the canal. The canal connects St. Joe Bay to the Intracoastal Waterway five miles inland. Throughout the colder months fish from the bay usually flounder, speckled trout and redfish move into the deeper, warmer waters of the canal. Throughout the summer the mouth of the canal is well-liked for seatrout, bluefish and Spanish mackerel.
