Sockeye Fishing Osoyoos Lake 2016

The Okanagan Nation Alliance or usually called ONA recognized the need for enhancement of the dwindling Sockeye stocks in 1995 and caused by their studies and restoration projects have brought back the fishery to where it has now become a sustainable fishery. ONA has forecast the Sockeye return for the 2016 season to be 80, 000 to 105, 000 fish to the mouth of the Columbia river. This is their starting point once they leave the ocean. If this comes to pass we’ll be in for another great season of Sockeye fishing on Osoyoos lake. With this species list an angler has many alternatives for a great day of fishing on Osoyoos Lake. Osoyoos is much recognized for windy days and that can make things hard when trying to target bass. A common day on this lake an angler can experience whitecap waves for a couple of hours, then calm flat water in the same afternoon. I like to start of the day with an early morning troll for big rainbows then switch my luck to fishing bass as the afterward morning warms up. Louie Baptiste of the Osoyoos Indian Band begins working this year as a sports fishing guide. He assumed a new ship just over a week ago and will be working with the B. C. Sportfishing Group, which was mentoring him. An experienced fisherman on Osoyoos Lake, Baptiste says he was working the last 10 years to accomplish his objective of becoming a fishing guide.
