1st bait, 1st cast; we caught a nice blue fin trevally. The fact that these anglers wanted to release all catches I think played a role this day. Now after releasing the 1st fish, we casted out another bait hooking a second fish now. We continued to have great action all morning. Finishing off this awesome Maui day with a giant needle fish which put up an remarkable fight as it leaped out of the water darting from side to side. Shore fishing this day we landed a total of 5 blue fin trevally, a giant needle fish, some causes and a few of other reef fish. We let them all go to fight another day. (facebook.com)
After some hours fishing on the rocks all 3 of us were close to each other fishing with light tackle. We had a bigger rod beside us soaking some new dead bait. It starting going off! Screaming line off the reel with authority. I quickly ran over to the rod, tightening the drag ensuring the fish was still on. I could tell that it had some serious weight to it. I got the rod into the anglers hand and it was hard to hold the rod up. The fish was pulling so hard. After some long minutes. The fish started to come in towards the rocks. As it was approaching it starting going under the ledge of the rocks we were standing on. (mauishorefishingguides.com)
Oama season usually runs from the beginning of July until the end of September. Last year the oama came in early and schools kept coming all the way into November. it is been theorized by marine biologists that the common weke and red weke broadcast spawned earlier than average caused by last Spring’s warmer than average sub-surface water temperatures and better currents brought the oama into the island chain. Bring your beloved surf spinning reel with you, and be prepared to purchase a agreeing 8- or 9-foot rod at a local tackle shop. Rig with a ringed torpedo sinker, 30-inch length of leader and a tarpon-style hook. Tip the hook with a strip of ika squid or a slice from a mackerel scad. Cast out the weight as far as you may be able to, and reel it back fast enough to keep it swimming just under the surface. Locals call this whipping. A fast surface retrieve can draw strikes from omilu bluefin trevally, lae leather-skin jack, kaku barracuda, aha aha needlefish and awa awa ladyfish . Some of these will bite through your nylon leader, however don t switch to wire. (sportfishingmag.com)

Today we did something distinctive, that I have never done before in the Hawaiian Islands or anywhere else . We went fishing for Peacock Bass. We fished in the Waita reservoir above Koloa town, which is the biggest reservoir in the state of Hawaii. Peacock Bass are a kind of bass that are from South America that live in temperate water. Due to Peacock Bass’ preference for a warm weather they aren’t found in the United States except for some places in Florida and Hawaii. Being a longtime saltwater fisherman I was keen to attempt something a little different was pretty excited for this bass fishing excursion. (Get redirected here)
Aaron Shoopak and Anna Gaydag from St. Petersburg FL got off the Hawaiian Island cruise ship, Pride of Aloha, to do a little "Big Game" fishing. They took a can to the Linda Sue III and 3 hours afterward, Aaron was fulfilling his dream. He had a Blue Marlin on the end of a rod, 30 minutes afterward, it was picture time. (lindasue2.com)
Arrange the A’u steaks in a baking dish or in a big oven safe skillet that has the olive oil on the bottom. Bake the fish for about 5 minutes in the preheated oven. Turn fish, and continue baking 5 minutes more. Now pour the tomato mixture over the fish and return the baking dish to the oven for 3 minutes more. Remove the fish to serving plates. Spoon the tomato mixture over the fish to serve. Garnish with lime wedges and basil sprigs. Serve with brown rice and Parmesan roasted zucchini. Makes 4 servings. (bitemesportfishing.com)
Was presented last year as the 1st big redesign of the Ugly Stik series since the classic design was presented in 1976. It s generally hard to follow a classic, however the GX2 did just that. In comparison to the original, it will include more graphite and less fiberglass, giving the rod more of a backbone for working lures and handling heavier fish while keeping the soft fiberglass tip that makes it sensitive enough for detecting subtler strikes and smaller catches. They also upgraded the guides to single-part stainless steel, eliminating the O-ring inserts that were about the only thing I ever saw fall separately on the original Ugly Stik. (Find out more)
