Unfortunately, sampling shows that few of these fish are quality sized. In fact, numbers of fish over 3. 5 pounds isn’t encouraging. Only three of the fish collected were over 18 inches. But, on the bright side, the number of fish three pounds and under is very good, and there are lots of fish 15 inches and above. Come Tuesday morning we weren’t quite as successful. Although we had tried cooking bacon over a camp fire before, I had recently assumed a cooking grate that was first meant for a grill, and decided that it may work for cooking bacon on our camp grill. Nope! Either the fire was too small and wasn’t cooking the bacon, or the fire got too big after the bacon grease dripped down into the fire. Either way, the heat wasn’t consistent. Parts of the bacon were over cooked and had that charred campfire taste, while other parts were undercooked and chewy. The Park is divided by the Fox River, with the northern area situated beside the Farnsworth House, intended by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The property that Mrs. Farnsworth bought frames part of the western side of the Park. One of the major access points to the park is a bridge that takes Fox River Drive Ben Street in Plano, over the river, and to an adjoining road Fox Road that runs past the entrance to the park. , Peter Foy, Ray Potempa, and Tom McGinnis conducted a survey of the lake to assess the aquatic plant growth situation. We began the survey from Peter s dock using his ship. We proceeded clockwise around the lake, following the shoreline. We encountered pretty thick growth nearly now out from shore at a depth of roughly 4 to 5 feet. As we moved out to 6. 5 to 7 feet it cleared up. This pattern continued around Lunds Point and well into Barbers Bay. We encountered a couple of clear regions; but the growth was pretty consistent in all of Barbers Bay all the way to Colladay Point. Perch: Good. Access to deeper water as ice thickens adding to reports. Deeper water 18-24 perch taking wigglers or red spikes tipped on Perch Talker rigs, Hali jigs and Northland Forage jigs. Less numbers, however, better size perch found fishing soft bottomed, weedy depths of 7-10 . These fish are more interested in meat.
