The rainbows are typically found in the faster water of the riffles and runs or at the base of the falls, though on occasion they’ll lie just on the outside of the fast current. The brook trout on the other hand tend to stay in the moderately flowing currents as opposed to the fast water inhabited by the rainbows. Floating bubbles are a good display of where the trout food is drifting downstream. Short correct upstream casts are the order of the day. Remember also that dry flies will nearly generally fool the brookies. (troutprostore.com)
The North Fork of the South Branch Potomac River say that ten times fast goes through West Virginia and sooner or later passes between Virginia and Maryland before it empties into the Chesapeake Bay. Although many anglers float the Potomac in Maryland and Virginia for smallmouth bass, there’s excellent access for wading trout anglers off path 28/55 in West Virginia. Here you ll find a healthy mix of brown and rainbow trout, with the sporadic brood stock brook trout. West Virginia s own golden rainbow trout elsewhere called a palomino rainbow also populate stretches of the river. The state record 9. (flyfisherman.com)
The walk best stretches of Seneca Creek, which unlike most streams on this list doesn’t have roadside access. The Seneca Creek Trail traces the river and a two-mile average hike will get you to the river s sweet spot, a five-mile part of water between a low waterfall and Judy Springs Campground upriver. There’s a total of 10 miles of fishable water in a steep gorge, the perfect opportunity to pack in a tent and fish for some days, particularly given the liberal camping rules of the area. Knotts was fishing the trout streams of his home state for almost 40 years and still doesn’t tire of this creek, primarily due to solitude and beauty of this mountain stream. (blueridgeoutdoors.com)
Let s now look at the different groups of trout streams that West Virginians have to decide from. Surely one of the most well received groups is the catch-and-release one. For this category, some of the rules include that fishing is allowed only throughout daylight hours; only fake flies and lures can be used; many hook lures must be barbless; single hook lures can be barbed; all trout caught must be returned to the water now, and no trout can be in an angler s ownership while he’s fishing in these chosen waters. The bushwhacking could be quite the adventure! The rhododendron thickets were hard to maneuver through, however I could take the lead and make a trail. I got to some point where I could see through the rhododendron that the hard ground seemed to vanish. So it was back up the mountain, around the ridge and attempt to pick my way down again. This could lead to the same result, so I repeated this and the 3rd time was a charm as I able to make it to the stream. (shocchris.blogspot.com)

In the past, the fall season had been constrained to 15 “conventional” turkey counties located usually in the state’s eastern mountains. That changed in the early 2000s when the DNR extended the fall hunt to “non-conventional” counties in which hunters had killed at least 0. 75 birds per square mile. Agency officials afterward lowered that threshold to 0. 5 birds per square mile. (wvgazettemail.com)
