Yes, you may be able to bring your ship but we’ll NOT be held accountable for any damage/loss to your ship. We have a pier/dock in front of the lodge but we don’t have ship slips or a ship ramp. There’s a public ship ramp some hundred feet down the road. You may be able to tie your ship to our dock or you may be able to pull it up on the lake bank in front of the lodge. Before you choose to tow your ship to Reelfoot Lake, you may want to know that Reelfoot Lake is a big but shallow lake. It averages 5-7 feet deep. There are some places that are 3 feet deep and some pools that are 15-20 feet deep. (acornpointlodge.com)

EDITOR’S NOTE: Billy Blakely of Tiptonville, Tennessee, manages Blue Bank Resort on Reelfoot Lake and also is the chief fishing guide there. Each day Blakely and the other guides who work with him on Reelfoot Lake take clients out fishing for bluegills, crappie, catfish and bass. ‘We have to rely on the fishing line we use to help us be successful and to help our clients to catch fish, ‘ Blakely explains. ‘that is the reason we have all changed over to Mossy Oak Fishing Line. We know that when a fish takes the bait we can rely on the Mossy Oak Line to put that fish in the ship. ‘ This week Blakely will tell us how he and the other guides at Blue Bank produce big numbers of fish each day during the spring and summer. The key out which cover to concentrate on because everything seems it should hold fish and most of it does at one time or another. Begin by asking questions around fish camps and launch ramps. Beyond gaining local knowledge, you just have to experiment and pay attention to details. Efficient patterning and the discipline to skip past great looking stuff that doesn t fit the pattern may be the difference between catching some bass and enjoying a really good day on Reelfoot. Trout are a well-liked species with anglers and are an interesting story. Trout are presented each October in the 8 to 10-inch length. Some believe that they reproduce naturally in the lake but Biologist Chris Bickers of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources doesn’t believe that to be the case. He explains that they stock the fish in the fall so that they become acclimated to the lake by the time anglers begin to fish for them in the spring. By that time, the trout are feisty enough for trout anglers. The trout are best caught using pieces of nightcrawler on small bait hooks fished under a slip bobber near the dam.
