Canoes and cartop boats don’t usually come to mind when anglers think of fishing along the Lake Erie Coast, however these small craft are just the ticket for spring bass fishing in the small bays and lagoons at Presque Isle State Park. Three tiers of water temperature exist in a small area. The coldest water is in Lake Erie, while somewhat warmer water may be found in Presque Isle Bay, and there’s notably warmer water in Horseshoe Pond, Marina Bay and the lagoons. The water in the lagoons may be 20 degrees warmer than in the major lake throughout May. I just took what you said like you were laughing at me saying I sucked and that anybody could go to Raystown this time of year and do amazing. I’m somewhat new to this competative bass fishing game but I know that 15 mph winds, 40 degree water temp, the water was cold and muddy also. All of this in the midst of a cold front aren’t ideal conditions. Another thing I threw the jerkbait for the most of the time I could say about 70 of my day. I also threw a jig a good 20 . I tried pig and jig and a T-rig speed craw. All we fished the whole day were points and ledges. I do not know how you wanted me to take the haha then you werent fishing with a jerkbait and you were not fishing points and ledges . (bassresource.com)

It is the yearly April-May shoreline spawn of alewives — 3-7 inch baitfish of the shad family — that lures stripers from the depths, where they use up most of their daylight hours. The ripples and splashes were heard but not seen as we cast toward the invisible shoreline, awaiting the telltale plop of our big lures at each cast. The day started out slow. I caught one small bass and missed some number of others on a crawfish jig in an area not far from the ship launch. Its one of those great places to hit 1st-thing to build up your confidence because its almost guaranteed there is some bass hanging out, regardless what their size is. Moving on, I covered some more stretches of back water where I may expect to find bass. But, it became obvious the bass were in a different pattern and possibly not so far back in from the lake. Survey work done last fall by the PFBC verifies the reduced smallmouth population in portions of the Juniata River, especially younger fish. The team sampled smallmouth populations at four historic sites. A report issued late last year stated, Considering adult smallmouth bass age-1 and older, catch rates were well above the long-term median at the upstream part of the Juniata River Mapleton and Newton Hamilton sampling stations joint but below long-term median at downstream places Thompsontown and Millerstown sampling stations joint . Also, catch rates for bigger and older persons, those longer than 15 inches in total length, were above the long-term median in the upper Juniata River and equal to the long-term median in the lower Juniata River. The Susquehanna River may be fished at it is best through private tour guides. Two of the best tour guides in the state comprise of Tony and Anthony Sissero. The Susquehanna is well-recognized for it is big mass of smallmouthbass. The ‘Hanna is filled with a great deal of walleye, catfish, and smaller panfish. Other fish composed of musky, northern pike, pickerel, American shad, and more are found inside the bases of the river. Walnut Creek, Elk Creek, bent Creek, Upper Gravel Pit Erie County — light temperatures kept streams open as late as Feb. 10, however fishing pressure was light. The lower stretches of Walnut and Elk creeks were yielding steelhead, and one local angler did well in the lower reaches of bent, where he stated catching new steelhead on emerald shiners.
