We went on salmon trip on June 25, 2011 and were disappointed. The weather was perfect sunny and not much swell and we were hoping for lots of action. The problem was that we could fish at any given spot for 5-10 minutes and Capitan Randy will take off to go someplace else. He’ll be cruising for 20-40 minutes and we’ll fish for 10. One time we were cruising for well over an hour. So we use up 85 of our time driving and 15 really fishing. For 22 people on the ship we came back with 4 Chinook. You have to have your line in the water to really catch the fish. Next time we ll go with somebody else who do less driving and more fishing. (tripadvisor.com)

I have heard that in choppy seas you will not do good with tuna. Not the case with this ship. Randy found the fish in rough seas, he’s relentless. I booked a tuna trip and it started slow, I broke a line and scattered th 1st school. We fought to find the fish but he found them. I caught 5 the 1st day and 10 the next. This man is awesome, he’ll guide on how to catch them. Things happen fast on a tuna trip and he wants you to catch as many fish as possible. The deckhands are among the best I have used. Among them was the husband and wife team of Jacques and Jacqui Ziebell of Lake Tapps, joined by Jacques sister, Debbie Winans of Orting. Also on board was Alan Liere who happens to write about hunting and fishing for the spokesperson-Review and two other generations of his family. Mike Mikesell of Everett was joined by two friends. Capt. Jason Powell joined South Shore Dry Dock in 2000 and operates our 2 offices in Westport and New Bedford, MA. Previous to joining SSDDM, he attended UMass-Lowell and finished his Master’s Degree in Physical medical care and Sports Medicine. He worked for the New England Patriots for 2 seasons 1991-92 . He then worked in physical medical care private practice, while at the same time earning a US Coast Guard Captain’s License and starting a sportfishing charter business established in Westport. He bought a ship through SSDDM, enjoyed the procedure, and decided to join the sales team. This trip was part of an auction item throught the Seahawks for the Chilhaven auction.   though I had virtually no flyfishing experience I was part of the item that was donated by Steve Joyce at Red's.   One of my new friends, man Conversano, bought the item at auction and set it all up.   I have to admit that I was a little worried as I knew that majority of the guys I was fishing with were great fly anglers and I didn’t want to slow them down.   It turns out that my worry was for nothing.   I fished the morning with Steve Joyce and he gave me some lessons and had me feeling like a pro after a short time. An explosion and fire which killed a 19-year old deck hand on Lake Norman has resulted in citations for the marina and ship owner and law suits have been filed. This tragedy again underscores how cautious we all must be while refueling. In this case there are allegations that the engine, generator and A/C were running while the refueling was going on.
