I have many instances, doing 1-1/2 dives off the one cliff, the other cliff is a dodgy dive with rocks below and I don’t recommend it unless you’re a super diver and know what you’re doing. Down the fire trail on the other side of Highway 120 are Three Pools, however swimming in the pools may be dangerous, access wise and current wise. Best to stay at Rainbow. The 3rd Pool has a great jump/dive about 80 feet, right beside the waterfall, however nearly leads into a chute that could mangle you. Do not do it unless you’re competent. Again, stick to Rainbow Pool. (sierranevadageotourism.org)
Although surely not an remarkable waterfall, Rainbow Pool has easy access, is pretty scenic and offers an excellent swimming hole for those hot summer days that California so on a regular basis enjoys. Those en path to Yosemite via Groveland may want to stop here for a quite respite if there are not more pressing matters to go to to, however this is not really a spot to go out of your way to find. If exactly looking for waterfalls, there are three or four others more downstream in the canyon which are more respectable places. (Click for more)
Rainbow pool on a hot summer day is Rainbow Pools swimming hole along California Highway 120. A beautiful crystal blue swimming hole is filled by the south fork of the Tuolumne River flowing over a nice 15 foot waterfall, and granite boulders line the sides of the pool. This is a great place to visit on a hot summer day to get a refresh midway to your destination because the swimming hole is only a short distance off the highway. (alltrails.com)

From Modesto, drive about 50 miles east on Highway 120 to the connection of Highway 108. Following Highway 120, go 25 miles to the confluence of the South and center Fork at Rainbow Pool Falls. Continuing along Highway 120 is access to the South Fork. The center Fork has access above Rainbow Pool Falls and by way of Evergreen Road. The major stem of the Tuolumne may be accessed by a dirt road just above Burch Meadows to Lumsden Bridge. (stevenojai.tripod.com)

June through September is the peak Yosemite vacation period. Some of the more well-liked places to visit include the big, open sub-alpine Tuolumne Meadows along the winding Tuolumne River, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, the breath-taking viewpoint at Glacier Point and the Half-Dome, and the silvery mists of Bridalveil Fall. The Yosemite Valley offers endless opportunities to explore its world-renowned spectacular waterfalls, granite cliffs, and strange rock formations. Hetch Hetchy, the lesser-recognized twin to Yosemite Valley, is home to equally magnificent scenery, also as the starting point for many of the less-used wilderness trails. (yosemitepinesrv.com)
Our family and enjoyed the comfy still rustic atmosphere. We took benefit of the guided "Bike, Hike and Swim" tour to Rainbow Pools and it was the highlight of our trip. Our enthusiastic guide, Bethany, was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna, and maintained a perfect rate for our diverse group. Swimming at the base of the waterfall was magical after a long bike ride on a hot July day. Recreation center staff member, Jill, provided great suggestions for our day in Yosemite National Park, and we managed to experience the Park’s amazing scenery while keeping away from the crowds. The Southfork starts at about 8, 750 feet in Yosemite National Park and drops over 7, 000 feet to the wild and scenic Tuolumne River recognized for its river rafting experience. Most of the South Fork is inaccessible as it drops through backcountry canyons and flats. The available spots for this river are in the park near its headwaters, at the Carlon day use spot, at the connection of Highway 120 near Italian Bar, at Berkeley Camp and Hardin Flat and at Rainbow Pool. It holds many falls and long glides as it wanders through meadows and canyons. Carlon Falls is a great day hike out of the Carlon day use area on the Evergreen Road. (southforkriver.net)
