Powder Puff Fishing Tournament Port Aransas

Needless to say, we did not get to weigh in, and we would not have won, despite as some nice Mahi were weighed in. We did learn to stick to our plans although, and we did have a beautiful day on the water. We had the Go-pro on the ship, however I never remembered to turn it on while the fish were biting. Still, I’ll go through it as I believe there can be some footage of flying fish and maybe the schools of spadefish and Barracuda swimming around the ship. Winter Homecoming 2016 began with the varsity girls basketball team hosting the East Union Lancers. A sluggish second quarter where Oakdale was outscored 12-4, saw the Lady Mustangs take a 53-40 loss in front of the big crowd. The Lady Mustangs kept the game close during the 1st quarter where they trailed 11-8 after the 1st eight minutes. Colleen Ibasco hustled under the rim and amassed an offensive rebound and put back to make it 11-8 with nine seconds left in the opening quarter. Good weather and blue/clear water made a good number of fish brought in over the past week. Many, many, many Kingfish around, caught off the jetties and in the Lydia Ann Channel! Tarpon showing up in numbers also as oversized redfish. The Amberjack and Snapper bite still good from as close in as Ocean Express out to City Service and the Falcon Nest Rig. Weedlines around the 26’s producing good shots at gaffer Dorado and some Wahoo. Billfish are here on a regular basis now with boats to get many shots and releases. The Classic kicks off the Yooper fishing tournament season, and a party weekend of hot fishin’ and cookin’ action in Ontonagon. The tournament has evolved into quite the shindig, a 3-day event with the Women’s Powder Puff Derby and a bonus pre-tournament on Friday, the captain’s meeting fish fry at the Shamrock Friday evening, and the BBQ for Life Cookoff and dinner Saturday.
