Here is a couple of info for surf fishing at Hatteras Tip #1- NEVER shine your headlights on the water at night. If you have auto headlights be sure you know how to start your truck without them coming on. Drum fishermen feel the light spooks the fish and do not look on it too kindly. Tip #2 – control your hooks when your rig is out of the water. Unattended hooks and sinkers dangling from a rod are an invitation to emergency operation. Tip #3 – Have fun. Tight lines and good luck. I’ll be going to the outer banks Southern Shores at the end of August/beginning of September. I have never gone surf fishing and only have a small amount of experience saltwater fishing went out in a charter for bluefish and did some fishing in cape may off a dock I do have freshwater fishing experience but ponds, lakes, streams, rivers . What I’d like to know is what gear do I need beforehand? am I supposed to get 2 rods or just stick with 1? What methods do I have to know? What could a good rod reel combo be that’s not too costly? What kind of fish can I expect to catch this time of year? I’m just looking for as much information as I can. (answers.yahoo.com)
