Also to shoreline fishing, boating for the reasons of fishing is allowed on NYC reservoirs to those with the proper DEP Access Permits and ship Tags. Anglers must store their fishing boats at chosen storage regions. All boats must be steam cleaned and registered with DEP. Some of the over 240 ship storage regions may at times be closed to the placement of new boats caused by overcrowding and maintenance needs; some number of are now closed. People who want to register a new ship must 1st get a valid DEP Access Permit, then call the DEP Office near the reservoir of interest to make a steam – cleaning and ship Tag registration appointment. Since the Pepacton has 60 miles of shoreline, it is easy to find room to fish and discover that perfect spot! After the waters warm in June, the trout are easier to catch from a ship by trolling spoons like Suttons and Stingers, or using live bait. This is when small mouth bass fishing gets going full steam as hungry bass cruise the water looking for alewives and crayfish. The about 5, 700-acre Pepacton Reservoir is home to many species of fish, as well as brown trout, rainbow trout, bass and panfish. DEP and DEC staff will be available to teach players how to fish and help with fishing equipment. The event will take place from 9 a. M. To 2 p. M. Parking will be located at the Shavertown Bridge ship launch site just off path 30, on the north side of the bridge, and extra parking will be available on the south side of the bridge near the DEP info kiosk. The Pepacton Reservoir, which obliged the flooding of four communities, begins at Downsville. The dam was finished in 1954, the flooding in 1955. The reservoir is open for fishing and for restricted boating both by permit . Boating access is available at Raynor Brook. The campground was constructed between 1965 and 1968. It opened for camping in 1968 with 67 sites; the picnic area and the beach in 1968. The 8 remote sites were added later. The shower house was constructed in 1984. In celebration of the 100th year anniversary of the Forest Preserve in July 1985, a time capsule was buried in the campground. This capsule, containing the names of the persons camping in the campground at that time, was entombed in the base of a stone monument located in front of the building manager’s office. Pepacton Reservoir is in Delaware County along the southern edge of Catskill Park, 45 miles west of Kingston, 45 miles southeast of Oneonta and more than 100 miles northwest of New York City.
