Pejepscot Fishing Park Brunswick Maine

One of Brunswick s most observable parks, the Lower Mall is on Maine Street in the center of downtown. The park serves as gathering place for community residents and plays host to a big number of special events and actions, as well as the well-liked Farmer s Market on Tuesdays and Fridays from May to November, many concerts and cultural events, and winter ice skating. Also, four seasonal food vendors sell different types of food daily throughout the warmer months. The bigger fish come from the pool by the dam. Back in the early 90’s, I saw a picture of what the angler claimed was a 6lb-er taken there.   possibly it was, possibly not.   It was big.   I have never fished that pool myself, so I can not offer any 1st hand information.   I have seen bait and turn casters catch fish there.   A 14 or 15 fish from the lower water is an elder statesman and rather unusual.   When I 1st started fishing there 6 or 7 years ago, it was quite steady, with fish quite wanting to come to swung wakers and streamers.   The last couple of times I went two years ago I did not get a bump. While white to Maine for many years-the Portuguese for the abundant fish in the Gulf of Maine, French explorers like Samuel de Champlain, the English who set up the failed colony at Popham, and possibly the Vikings long before that-the 1st permanent European settler in the Pejepscot area was Thomas buy. Although there’s much debate bordering the year he arrived, resources do agree that buy arrived here in the 1620s. Another area of hot debate was where he built his homestead-at least one source says it was near Brunswick’s Water Street, close to the current site of the Captain Daniel Stone Inn. Between the Pejepscot ship launch in Topsham and the power dam located about 0. 5 mile more upstream see The Maine Atlas and Gazetteer map 6 B2 . I use up most of my time fishing the rock piles around where the path 125 bridge crosses the river. The water level is quite high today and more water than average is flowing through these rocks, which should attract smallies who like to ambush prey from behind submerged boulders. My tempt of choice is a 4″ pink soft stickbait. I am imbedding the big hook inside the body of the bait, however quickly notice that this tactic is causing me problems. (amazingfishametric.com)

Brunswick was first called Pejepscot which referred to the rocky rapids that are part of the Pejepscot River. In 1676 the town burned to the ground and stayed in ruins till it was partially reconstructed throughout the King Williams War. Pejepscot Dam Recreation Area is on the Androscoggin River. This hand-carry ship access point is on property owned by Pejepscot Dam operators, a steel canoe portage stairway with padded canoe slide is in place to permit canoes or kayaks to be slid down to the river for launching. There are hiking trails along the river, located on property owned by the Town of Brunswick. The park is well-liked with fishermen. The entrance to Pejepscot Dam Recreation Area is on River Road, roughly 4 miles from nice Street path 1 . The most important man-made affect to the New Meadows River was the 1937 construction of a causeway between Brunswick and West Bath, which effectively dammed the upper part of the embayment and reduced tidal range to inches instead of feet.   In the 1960s, another causeway was constructed, bisecting the upper and lower sections of the River into two lakes.  These tidal limitations have caused low dissolved oxygen levels, eutrophication and loss of intertidal habitat. The 1857 Captain George McManus House is a good example of a transitional Greek Revival-Italianate residence of the mid-coast region. The 1850s were -much a Victorian decade in the history of Brunswick architecture. Italianate designs with projecting rooflines became common and were complemented by ornate brackets and intricate ironwork. Brick was the favored building material. Interiors evolved from the lighter, classical designs to more full bodied and ornamental forms. If you’re planning on being in the Brunswick area between mid-May and late June, make sure to visit FPL Energy’s Brunswick Hydro generating station on the Androscoggin River. Here you’ll find a glass wall looking at room to watch the yearly spawning ritual of anadromous fish heading upriver. Species like Herring, Salmon and Smallmouth Bass make their way up a 40 foot high, 570 foot long man-made fish ladder. The looking at room can accommodate up to 20 people. (wikitravel.org)
