Fishermen – take note: Pathfinder and Alcova Reservoirs located 40 and 30 miles southwest of Casper support some of the biggest populations of walleye in Wyoming. Referred to by locals as the lobster of the Rockies, walleye is certainly the fish. Er. dish of choice for fish fries during Casper year round. Casper’s two local reservoirs are ideal walleye habitat, so your chances are pretty good to hook into some nice walleye. (fishcasper.com)
1-2-16: The ice is here, we’re finding ice on the sweetwater arm around 10″to 14″. Bishops from the ship dock area and major cove is 5″ to 8″ and to get better with this cold weather we’re having. I have gotten reports from friends saying from the dam to the marina are 8″ to 10″ also wolfpoint and canyon creek. Ice is looking good and hard but remember there’s no such thing as safe ice, use caution and be safe. (pathfindermarina.com)
The Curt Gowdy lakes are the best place in the neighborhood to go and simply catch fish. Many species co-exist in both Crystal and Granite Reservoirs, as well as Rainbow, Cutthroat, Lake and Brown trout, and Yellow Perch. Most fish caught are in the 8 -12 range with some brood stock going over 18 . Granite is the biggest of the three lakes and lots of people go boating out here and it’s more of a recreation lake. There’s an outdoor archery range, play ground and lots of camping regions around the lake. (flystore.net)
We drove out to the Pathfinder Marina which is closed in winter and spotted about a dozen fisherman scattered about the giant reservoir. We selected the protected cove by Woolf Point to be our fishing spot for the day. Upon loading up our camouflage colored gear sled, we walked with trepidation out on the ice. I am generally nervous that 1st time I walk out onto the ice, however upon realizing it was over a foot thick I felt more at ease. We opened up some old ice fishing holes from ice fisherman before us, and set to work preparing our tip ups with the live minnow bait. Tip ups are ice-fishing rigs that you may set and leave alone till a fish bites; the fish then pulls the line and sends a bright display flag upwards. (roundup.wyomingtourism.org)
Ice fishing at Keyhole Reservoir offers opportunities to take home walleye, crappie, perch and northern pike, and recurrent fishers recommend finding a spot on the south side of the lake. Keep an eye out for Wyoming wildlife like white-rear and mule deer, pronghorn antelope and red foxes, who are frequently easier to spot roaming along the shimmering snow. In the meantime, the two-day Keyhole Ice Fishing Derby every February rewards anglers for big catches. (winter.wyomingtourism.org)
The fishing is quite honestly like going back in time and seeing what wyoming trout fishing could have been like 100 years ago. There are lots of fish that have never seen flies and may be caught some ways. Nymphing can create fish on almost every cast. Streamers can wied out the 18-21 inch fish and let us to hone in on the big 24+ browns and rinbows. Do you want to see many fish attempt and eat a mouse? This is the place. (minturnanglers.com)
Walleye fishing in Wyoming is nothing short of world class. Our guides have hooked and landed some number of fly rod world record walleye and we firmly believe that almost every world record walleye lives in the Reservoirs of the North Platte River. We target walleye on both fly rod and regular tackle and our guide are well adept to helping you have a successful day of walleye fishing with any tackle you want to fish. Cowboy Drifters head walleye guide Ryan Hemkens is a life long walleye fan and will fish sunrise till dusk if you do not mind. (wyocowboydrifters.com)
We fished the the north point of Bishop Point today 1/4/14! Spent seven hours fished all over by the point found fish around 20 FOW to 25 FOW. Caught two Walleye and five Rainbows. Sambow we’re thinking about fishing Bishop Point tomorrow around 8am we’ll be driving a little white Toyota and be in a red 4man Eskimo shanty just north of the point. If you wanna fish come join us. . (hardwatermilitia.com)
As with both the Grey Reef and Miracle Mile sections of the North Platte, Cardwell and Fremont offer great fishing year-round. That being said, nymphing is the most productive technique daily. While you may be able to nymph all year long, the dry fly fishing and streamer fishing may be some of the best in the whole North Platte system. The dry fly fishing may be consistent when there are baetis, caddis, tricos, and midges present. Concentrate on the flats in the Cardwell part when the fish are looking up. The boulders, deeps pools, and the tailouts hide some violent trout waiting to eat your streamer, particularly on the cloudy days. (northplatteflyfishing.com)
The buzz: Reports are skimpy since about the only way to get to any of the mountain lakes is via skis, snowshoes or, maybe, snowmobile. The webcams for Lake Owen and Rob Roy Reservoir point to some open water, so the fishing may be great for those making the trek across the snow to get there. In the meantime, there is no word still on when Highway 130 will open over the Snowy Range. It is not likely it’ll open by Memorial Day but check the WDOT web site for updates. As of the start of the week the U. S. Natural Resources Conservation Service snow-measuring station reports a snow depth of 85 inches at Cinnabar Park, near Rob Roy Reservoir, a 2-inch increase from last week. (wyomingnews.com)
