Hybrid striped bass are ramping up activity at Herrington Lake, beginning their early spring run upstream toward the headwaters and into the Dix River. Another top-notch opportunity is catching sauger below the dams on the Ohio River, where schools are ganged up for their spring spawning run. Bright colored jigs tipped with minnows are efficient just off the rocky bottom in these tailwater regions. Many also offer bank fishing access for those who favor that approach. (gameandfishmag.com)
The water this part of the lake, nearly muddy at times, and there are stumps and stickups EVERYWHERE, many are 6 feet tall or more. They are all in water anywhere from 6′ deep to less than 1′ deep on average. There’s a creek channel running about right through the center of it that should be about another 8 to 10 feet deep over the 6 foot depth of the lake at summer pool in that area. There’s a bridge that crosses over it with pilings that go right down into the water. The water is less than 30 feet large at that point but then it opens up again on the other side of the bridge. I visited Trammel Creek pages 106-108 the day after the July stocking. Schrodt and Askren rate Trammel as one of the best trout producers in southwestern Kentucky. It has received stream restoration and habitat work by the state, evidenced by the placement of different-size stones to form a sluice, riffle and pool about 200 yards downstream from the upper public access off Blankenship Road. This part is portrayed in Schrodt and Askern’s review. (courier-journal.com)

As an example, anglers typically think of Dale Hollow Lake as the place to go for the state s biggest smallmouth bass. Dale Hollow, after all, is home to the world record smallmouth bass an 11-pound, 15-oz fish caught by Leitchfield inhabitant David L. Hayes in 1955. The second and 3rd biggest smallmouth bass caught in the world both exceeding 10 pounds also came from Dale Hollow Lake. The last of these top three fish was caught more than two decades ago, in 1986. (bgamplifier.com)

Kentucky has invented some number of dishes; most notably the Kentucky Hot Brown and beer cheese. The Hot Brown was worked on at the Brown Hotel in Louisville. The dish is typically layered in this order: toasted bread, turkey, bacon, tomatoes and exceeded with mornay sauce. Beer cheese is a cheese spread that originated in Central Kentucky near Winchester. While there are conflicting stories on where beer cheese originated, Johnny Allman’s, a restaurant on the Kentucky River present-day site of Hall’s on the River is usually credited with inventing the dip. Colonel Harland Sanders began Kentucky Fried Chicken in Corbin. (wikitravel.org)
