I had recently started fly fishing enough to justify the buy of a expensive 4 pc rod. I have a Reddington 5wt 9ft and a TFO signature II 4 wt 8ft. The TFO was a little too mid, slower flex than I liked, with the Reddington a fast rod, heavier and a 5 weight line was a little too much for the hooch in the regions I fish. I was looking for a rod that was the same length 9ft as this works best for me on either a drift ship or wading. I had bought the TFO pro II 1st because it was 50$ cheaper but after casting this clearwater, it is much smoother and the fit and finish is much nicer. A trout can take a fly and spit it out in less than 1/10 second. Do you really think you’re good enough to put out 60 feet of line, mend it for a perfect presentation, detect a strike and set the hook with 60 feet of line out in less than 1/10 second. ‘let us get real here. ‘ If you’re planning on buying a rod and line to put those 60 foot casts, stop reading here. Want to be blown away attempt out the offerings from Grey’s. I cast a 9′ 4wt X-flite along side a much expensive Orvis and sage rods I was trying to choose which one i was going to purchase. Believe it or not the $280 x-flite blew them both out if the casting pool. I was able to throw 70′ of line easily and pick it up again with out any trouble. The recuperation on it was as good as either of the $400 + costly rods as was the capability to hit what you needed too at 20′ or 70′.
