Dollar Lake is close to other big hiking trails in the neighborhood like the Musquodoboit Trailways which passes close. The system of trails meanders along the Musquodoboit River, with some sections a rail trail along an old railroad bed. In elementary schools inside the county to teach school kids about the life cycle of trout and salmon. This year, 14 elementary schools in Pictou County are participating in the program. In February, each Fish Friends classroom aquarium was stocked with about 300 trout eggs and by April, the eggs begin to hatch and the students increase the fish through to the fry stage. Then in early June, PCRA members take the students out to a close river and the students release their fish into the wild. The bound on all trout species is five fish, either all of one species or a mix. The season on trout runs from April 1 to September 30. Perch species, brown bullhead, chain pickerel and white sucker seasons match with the other sportsfish seasons and the bound is 25 fish. Lake whitefish also corresponds with other seasons and the bound is 8 fish. Bass limitations and seasons differ and anglers should verify with the particular area they intend to fish.
