Many species of fish look alike, making it hard to tell them separately. Also, many kinds of fish have different common names in different parts of the country. To distinguish one organism from another, biologists give each a scientific name that’s distinctive to that organism. The names are resulting from the Latin language and comprise of genus and a species. The genus name is listed 1st and is capitalized. The species comes second and is in lower case. Both the genus and species are either underlined or italicized when written. While some number of life forms in the same "family" share a common genus name like family members sharing a last name, they have different species names. (dec.ny.gov)
After my 1st Northern Pike fishing trip with my son on Fathers day weekend of 2009, I’m hooked. Andersons Lodge in Sioux Lookout, Ontario provided one of the best experiences for my son & I though it was costly . We started out one day 1 with many Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, and Northerns. Day two was focused soley on Northerns and we caught approx 12 Northerns over 30 and 25-30 total. Day three was the same, we had to work a little harder but still remaining. Guides, ask for John the Baptist, great man and excellent guide. (fieldandstream.com)
Now the you must be cautious while boating there, however the recent rainfall is bringing the level up. The reason Great Sacandaga Lake is a good pike destination is that there are lots of weedy bays and other habitat. This man-made flood control reservoir has many little bays and side channels with creeks coming in that will hold pike early in the year as the northern lay in wait for baitfish. There are a couple of public launches scattered around the lake, and also some private marina launch sites. (timesunion.com)

I live the coxsackie resevoir nearly every night after work with my wife and son. There are good fish in there but you certainly can not put a conoe/ship of any kind in there, unless you want to get tossed in the slammer for the night that’s. Another downside is that you need an extra permit to fish there which is $10 and you must get it at the village building throughout regular business hours. (alloveralbany.com)
I just wanted to get this note off to you to tell you what a great experience you provided for my wife and me on May 29 2010 just 4 short days ago. We desperately needed some relaxation and in the 4 hours we spent with you we got all of that and more. You obviously knew the waters of that lake better than most men could know their bath tub. Consequently, my wife and I each caught about 15 fish which were released to get bigger for next time. My wife had never done any thing involving the outdoors and she had a perfectly great day. Your pontoon ship was easy ion her as she can have motion illness but with your ship, no problem. (fishlakegeorge.com)

While Northern the most widely dispersed freshwater fish in the world, lots of people around the area do not fish them as heavily as they could for as good of fishing we have in upstate New York. Lots of us in the shop avoid them usually because they get in the way when we are aiming at perch and bluegill. Although they’re some a hindrance when you are fishing for non-game fish, there’s a big opportunity to fish them for sport. Every year we have a pike derby through the store and the Horning boys generally bring in a couple pushing 40 inches. More North toward Indian River and up people bring in world class size pike and musky that could give some of these salmon a run for their money so do not be scared to attempt new things and see what you may be able to bring in. It’s ironic that sport fishing at the Federal Dam now enjoys such a good repute. As recently as 20 years ago, the Albany Pool was one of the most polluted bodies of water in the United States. Robert Boyle, in his overview of the river, ”The Hudson River: A Natural and Unnatural History, ” portrayed the Albany Pool as ”awesomely foul. ” Rife with raw sewage, this part of the river was a trap for fish that could succumb to the loss of oxygen that resulted from decomposition of the wastes throughout hot spells. Boyle wrote that fish kills turned the river silver with dead herring. (nytimes.com)
– Modification to 5 trout daily bound on Cayuga and Owasco Lakes: keep present 5 trout joint daily bound for trout in Cayuga and Owasco Lakes but change maximum number of Lake Trout kept from 3 to 5 per day. Also change daily harvest bound for Rainbow and Brown Trout from 5 to 3 per day. Rationale: The more liberal daily bound on Lake Trout is meant to increase the harvest of Lake Trout and let for improved survival of other trout and salmon in Cayuga and Owasco Lakes. The reduced daily bound on Rainbow and Brown Trout is meant to alleviate some harvest pressure as the Department strives to increase their numbers in both lakes. (huntfishnyoutdoors.com)
