From Vallejo, over the Petaluma River Bridge to Black Point and continue to the exit for Atherton Avenue. Take that exit signed toward Black Point for 0. 1 mile to Atherton. Turn left on Atherton Avenue and drive 3. 2 miles cross Highway 101 and continue straight onto San Marin Drive and go 2. 7 miles to Novato Boulevard. Turn right and drive 6. 3 miles to Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. Turn left and drive 4. 1 miles a short way past connection with Nicasio Valley Road on left to a dirt pull-out on left for parking and trailhead. (sfgate.com)

S. 101 at Novato, take the San Marin exit and continue west to Novato Blvd.   Turn right and drive 9 miles.   Turn right on Petaluma-Point Reyes Rd, and travel mile, then turn left on Wilson Hill Rd.   Drive 3 miles northwest, then turn on Marshall-Petaluma Rd. Lake Lagunitas is managed under a special program for trout so has different fishing rules than the other reservoirs. The bite was good in the Petaluma River and Capt. Joel Sinkay of Leonard s Bait & Tackle in Port Sonoma said, Matthew, one of our customers, was fishing the mouth of the river today before coming back in for more rigs, because something big wrapped around his line and shredded it three times! I wonder what that may have been? Sturgeon? I think so. There have been sturgeon caught and marked all during the river and some people were fishing in the same hole we were at last week when we got ours. We had some leopard sharks caught near the mouth also, usually on grass shrimp. Stripers were caught off shore here at Port Sonoma and Black Point ship launch. (wonews.com)

Just for background, I am fishing in at least 10′ of visibility, rocky reservoirs in anywhere from 4′ to 50′ of water. I have spent the past month or so trying not to throw anything but cranks, wanting to learn all about them and how to make bass bite them. The lakes I fish don t have shad, however they do have bluegill, crappie, and crayfish in numbers. it looks that while I can catch numbers on the crank, I can not catch bigger fish when I fish close to heavy cover. recently it looks most of the fish are holding tight to wood with a particular kind of weed growth on it in 3′-15′ of water and want a slow fluttering fall of a weightless plastic rather than a crank.
