Yes, Jersey has discontinued their tiger stocking caused by really low catch rates for the amount of work they put in to stocking them. Nearly all of the lakes that were tiger only or mixed have switched to true strain muskies only. Yes, they’re clean for the most part. Males are generally clean but the females may be fertile from what I remember reading someplace. Suited habitat for muskies to spawn is few and far between in New Jersey so lakes in NJ need stocking to continue the fisheries. Little Swartswood and Manasquan were two of the Tiger only lakes. Located in Thompson Park in Lincroft, NJ, Marlu Lake is a freshwater lake. The lake is 22 acres and features lots of underwater also as above water structure. The depth averages about 5 to 10 feet with one part that goes to 20+’. There’s an area to launch cartop boats/kayaks and trailered boats it isn’t a conventional ship ramp. It’s more of just a flat area that slowly drops off . Boats are constrained to electric motors only. Though the lake may be fished from the shoreline, it is simpler to fish by ship, kayak or canoe. I from jersey myself and i definatly have Musky fever! Im new to musky fishing only having last year under my belt and usually trolling for them. Still have not landed one still but im not stopping any time soon. I fish Monksville Reservoir some days a week because its my home town lake and it doesnt hurt that the state record musky was caught there, too. Im toying around with the idea about to get a guide for a day to soak up as much information as possible. The ship i use is a fishing machine set up with everything you could possibly need for trolling. I figured I could start this page now so that I have the hang of it by fishing season. Russel, nick and I headed out today in an try to put some trout on the stringer before the river close for the open day stocking preparations. We started off at the rockaway river with totally failure at all. After arguing for a good 20 minutes it came down to going to the pequest or flat brook which could be decided by a coin toss. The wanaque above Monksville is one heck of a temperate water fishery. There exists a dam/waterfall with a monstrous pool upstream of monksville that’s really hard to access and is hardly fished. The amount of walleye and musky that stack up in this ridiculously deep pool is unbelievable. Its one of the few regions I know of where a fly fisherman has a legitamate shot at a walleye or musky. Locked up clutches were checked before it was time to sit back with Tom and a couple of mates came down before long the Coleman was taking a generous hammering! Around midnight me and Tom hit the bag, it wasn t till 4 am when I was awoken to a drop back on the left hand rod on 1st thoughts I was thinking bloody tench! It wasn t till the head torch was flicked on a small common was the prize. No sooner had Tom netted the 1st fish the second rod on the spot let out a couple of single bleeps before the tip went sailing round.
