Talon requires a minimum of 6 of clearance from the mounting surface. If more clearance is needed, or it’s needed to mount over top of trim tabs, Minn Kota offers a 6 riser accessory, and a range of adapter mounting brackets that will give you the correct amount of setback distance from the transom to clear trim tabs and/or other accessories. See the Talon installation guide for in depth information or the Talon adapter bracket selection guide. (minnkotamotors.com)
Took ship out today with new Minn Kota fitted. What a great addition to boating. A great thing. So good about just pttering around on the electric and not starting the motor all the time. That bottom lock works a treat. It just held me in the exact spot between bridge pilons, where the tide was running pretty fast. Every other ship was anchored. Just one question. Is it ok to have the lock. (boardreader.com)
The next big question was where to house the battery bank. Being lazy I firstly opted to put the two group 27 deep cycle’s in the front hatch behind the anchor locker but once I got the batteries in there I quickly changed my mind caused by the loss of good storage space and extra weight being placed forward. After much ache I moused a wire back through the fuel filler housing, up into the forward seat in front of the console, and through the wall into the console. Not only could this bring the weight back but could also eliminate the need for a fourth battery. The ship first had a crank and house battery so I just required to add an extra bank to the present house in series to make it 24V. (piscatus.net)
The casting deck is big at 500mmH X 1800mmL at its longest point and is intended for fishing with lots of room to fish up to 2 anglers at a time. A spigot hole is located near the bow and lets room for a seat or t-bar for support for passengers that may be used when spotting fish or when casting lures at sea. Under the front deck there’s a big storage area with access via the front hatch suited for storing safety gear, fishing tackle, kill bag, anchor floats and two big batteries for the electric motor and mounted battery charger. The big single hatch 1200mmL X 890mmW assembly has a self draining gutter around it to ensure water doesn t penetrate into the storage area. (scottgrayfishing.com.au)

After conversing with other fishos who have built their own ship, I was swaying into looking around to see what other custom plate ship manufacturers were producing for your money. After looking into some of their product it was reassuring to me why I made the choice to build my own ship, poor weld quality and poor finish. I was firm in the belief that I could produce a better quality ship till I went down and visited Matthew Thomas and the boys at AMM. There it was in front of me, they were building my ship before me. On starting my tour through the workshops the 1st thing you notice is that from the fabrication bay through to the fit out bay, everything is clean, organised and in its place. The hole 251 hit the 30 mph mark in 10 seconds. LaVanway pushed the throttles while I monitored my hand-held GPS. We reached a top speed of 58. 1 mph at 5, 800 rpm both with and against the diminished tidal current. At the top end, we achieved 1. 7 mpg. With a lighter load, this ship should make 60 mph. In fact, Scout s own testing with a smaller, V-6 F300 on another hull carved out 60. 1 mph and 2. 31 mpg. (sportfishingmag.com)
The lower deck was flat, not having the deep rebates as seen in the 4. 5 model we tested in TB issue 170, making for a smooth, sure-footed passage around the ship. The forward casting deck had two flush-mounted hatches. The portside hatch gives access to a livebait well, which is plumbed and serviced by a pump mounted on the transom. The starboard compartment is sealed off for storage of gear, which may get wet should a deluge find its way past the hatch. (redbook.com.au)
The hardtop also has a rocket launcher and work lights and inside a radio console above the windscreen. The interior of the hardtop and cabin are completely lined. There is a big, flat dash area to keep all those knickknacks, plus a passenger Jesus bar and another hard grab-handle under the roof for someone standing. The dashboard is simple but efficient, with lots of room for the new 12in Garmin GPSMAP 5012 3D marine navigator a great unit, I may add . White Pointer has done an huge amount of testing with through-hull transducers and we had a perfect picture at large open throttle in a strong current. (tradeboats.com.au)
