After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)

Any credibility Resources has with Michigan sportsmen is vanishing quicker than a whitetail deer spooked by a noisy hunter. It looks unbelievable that the agency has discovered a $10 million balance in its Game and Fish Fund when the agency was threatening to lay off 79 employees and close some wildlife regions to hunting ostensibly due to a lack of money. On Dec. 11, DNR Director Rebecca Humphries clarified to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural Resources that the unexpected windfall is caused by a raise in license sales, operational changes and good returns on investments. The park’s old-growth forest is dotted with 16 cabins for rent, among the most well-liked programs in the park. Three of the cabins are open year-round. Some are a mile from the nearest road, however the hiking trails to the cabins are easy, and their remoteness adds to the allure of calm, simple cabin life. These cabins are well-built, however they don t have running water or electricity; they offer families, campers and seekers of peace and calm an ideal way to escape the rush of city life — a calm cabin in the Porkies may have healing powers. Now granted, there are more than some that favor to hunt turkeys with a shotgun…I get that, however there are those totally hardheaded persons like myself that will inevitably find themselves gravitating towards pursuing these challenging birds with a bow. With that undertaking, the difficulty largely intensifies. The subtle movements and smooth swing of that shotgun barrel are exchanged for the motions of panning and/or drawing your bow to anchor simultaneously. Oftentimes having to change your height or body position to clear limbs and bordering brush. It’s a trial in patience. But the reward is worth the frustrations! I’m going to run through some broadheads, old and new, that will ensure clean, fast kills when that opportunity arises. (blogs.basspro.com)

I seem to hear their calls when I least expect them. Such was again the case this year. I heard them on the remarkably warm afternoon of Feb. 13 as I was walking about my yard trying to shake off the effects of an sickness that kept me inside far too long. Off to the north I heard the unmistakable karoo, karoo, karoo calls of a flock of sandhill cranes flying so high in the sky I couldn’t see them. While it’s true that these garbled calls, which may be heard a mile or more away, frequently sound like the barking of a pack dogs, I was sure I was listening to sandhill cranes.
