Metolius River Bull Trout Fishing

The Metolious is a fly fishing only river. In Oregon that guideline has some number of facets that are meant to purify the practice to some essential rudiments. One thing it takes away is using split shot. Fish the Metolious with a nymph rig for five minutes and you ll begin to understand how squarely this guideline puts you behind the eight ball. The fish hold in channels, deep undercuts, deeper pools, way out in the center behind lava outcrops. You’ll have to look at things a little differently to fool fish sub-surface in the Metolious. The Fly Fishing only part from the headwaters down to Bridge 99 is about 12 miles of great water. It may be broken down into 2 distinct sections; the upper river and center river. The ‘lower’ river begins at bridge 99 and is not regulated for Fly Fishing only. I'm heading couple of weeks for the same function. I've heard they really like to eat whitefish at least the big bulls do, so I've been tying up a bunch of white streamers. They seem to congregate in the deep pools more so than other trout do, at least from what I've seen, I've never really caught one, so I may don t have idea what I'm discussing. A true trout population has rebounded from very low numbers to become one of the strongest most robust populations in the country. Lake Billy Chinook is one of the only regions where you may be able to legally keep a bull trout. Also to being the premiere place to catch bull trout and kokanee, there are rainbow trout, smallmouth bass and other species in the lake. The shop’s winter report touts the Metolius River as its favorite winter fishery. Big Bull Trout have been legendary in the Metolius for generations, and winter is a great time to target these big fish. As the Kokanee leave Lake Billy Chinook and head up the Metolius, the big Bulls are typically right behind them looking for an easy meal. ESTACADA, OREGON – June 30, 2011 – Officials check the tracking device implanted in the fish before they reintroduce the 1st bull trout back to their home waters in the Clackamas River from which they were totally wiped out almost 50 years ago.
