Some light a bunch of fishermen to the northwoods lakes and they met with variable success. Walleyes were the target for many of these anglers, and action was spotty. The best success was in the early morning or late afternoon hours and the fish were being found on mud flats or near breaklines in 6 to 12 feet of water. Suckers were the best action, and most of the walleyes were in the 12- to 16-inch range. Northern pike action was just, with the fish being found in shallower water throughout the noon hours. Big golden shiners fished near or over old weedbeds in 3 to 6 feet of water provided the most consistent action. (outdoornews.com)
Saturday 3/31/12, I returned to the Menominee River and jumped in with Pete Yake Leatherman . I was seeking redemption for blowing a photo of my friend Mark’s 30. 5" Monster on Thursday…There was a record number of boats present, with a trailer parking overrun for blocks around… The walleye bite was slow during the morning with falling temps and little flow. Pete was vertical up front with two rods and I held down the stern. It did not take long for the 1st dandy to smack Pete’s paddletail…A spawned out 26" female showing stress from the spawn. Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman. Com started as a group of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our 1st message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)
The Lower Menominee River where the river enters the Bay of Green Bay is one of the few places where you may be able to catch both numbers of walleye and have a good chance of boating a trophy. Both the lower Menominee River and the Bay of Green Bay have one of the best walleye fisheries in the Midwest. Trolling is the favored technique for locating walleyes. When trolling, both live and fake baits are productive. Crawler harnesses, leeches and crank baits are all efficient. As far as color goes, use fire-tiger patterns on sunny days and minnow patterns on overcast days. Crank baits in a silver / blue pattern may be productive at any time. (therealnorth.com)
The complete opportunities for walleye anglers. On the river there’s a one fish bag bound till the 1st Saturday in May when the regular fishing season opens. With this one fish bag bound it’s still worth your time spending a day on the river. March and April are prime time to catch big pre-spawn walleye and action with smaller males. If you have to take home a fish, you may be able to take one home as long as it’s over the 15-inch mark. Many anglers decide to fish in Marinette-Menominee where the Menominee Rivers enters the bay of Green Bay. While there’s an excellent fishery present and big fish are caught daily, I favor to fish the upper river. (learninghowtofish.com)
It’s made along roughly 10 mi 16 km northwest of Iron Mountain, Michigan by the confluence of the Brule and Michigamme rivers. It goes southeast, past Kingsford, Michigan and Niagara, Wisconsin, then usually south, making broad meanders collecting the Sturgeon, Pemebonwon and Pike rivers. It enters the Green Bay on Lake Michigan from the north between Marinette, Wisconsin and Menominee, Michigan. (anglerweb.com)
The most memorable days I have had on this river were with guides Todd Koehn and Ron Barefield. Koehn guides on the upper river, aiming at the run between Merill and Brokaw, and beyond. The last time we launched his jet-drive ship in a place where the Wisconsin is just becoming a river, it took my 4×4 truck tethered to his 4×4 truck to launch and recover the ship. Our efforts were rewarded with some number of fish over 20 inches and a couple of muskies. All Koehn throws are No. 4 and No. 5 Mepps Black Fury Spinners, noting that majority strikes come when you cast upstream and retrieve with the current. (gameandfishmag.com)
Little Bay restricted because of snow. The deep snow makes moving shanties hard and some have been unable to reach them because of drifting snow. There was a big pressure crack and no vehicles are traveling over it. Anglers are venturing as far south as the No See-um Creek area. The best walleye catches were stated near Portage Point when jigging rapalas or using tip-ups with minnows 40 to 50 feet down along the break. Some walleye were caught near Gladstone in 30 to 40 feet. As for whitefish, just to good reports came from Sand Point when jigging minnows or spawn in 75 to 85 feet or off Gladstone when fishing off the bottom. (facebook.com)
The mystery tour bus could head north from the great and find the Muskegon River inside an hour. Like most western Michigan rivers among the most stable on earth by ground flow, the Muskegon stays open and fishable all winter and spring. It s a pretty big river, two long casts from bank to bank on the wider pools, and the best fishing takes place from small jet boats. Big steelhead and browns are stopped by Croton Dam, about 50 miles inland from Lake Michigan as the crow flies, and the best fishing occurs from there down to Newaygo. Some number of parks and public landings in this stretch form access points for foot soldiers. (in-fisherman.com)
Is a fishing guide service located in Green Bay, Wisconsin run by Captain Jim Kleist. I live minutes away from the West shore of Green Bay, and began fishing there back in 1989. I guide for many species on Green Bay and its’ river system as well as the Fox, Menominee, Peshtigo, and Oconto rivers. Lake Winnebago is a favorite and I use up half of my time chasing walleyes on the Winnebago system. (fishingguidesgreenbay.com)
