. Anglers are fishing as far south as Portage Point, however open water starts around the Breezy Point so use caution in these regions. Ice conditions were good in the northern bay, however not as good near Portage Point. Saunders Point had a big area of open water that just froze over and was considered dangerous. Walleye catches were stated during the bay, however the southern waters were best. Anglers stated just action at the Escanaba ship docks or just south of the Escanaba River in 18 to 22 feet of water. Some number of big pike also were stated in this area. Just numbers of perch were being caught between the second and 3rd reefs. (outdoornews.com)
As good at ports like Onekama and Manistee, the area called ‘The Ledge’ between Ludington and Big Point Sable to the north may be the best on the Great Lakes. Because of this, big numbers of kings converge on the structure previous to spawning time. The salmon are naturally reproduced in local rivers and placed in the Sable River. Anglers converge there too, and it is not unusual to see more than 300 boats plying the waters on Labor Day weekend. The quarry is chinook that often top 30 pounds. Savvy anglers avoid the crowds and head straight out of the harbor or south toward the buyer’s Energy plant to find their own fish. (gameandfishmag.com)
Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman. Com started as a group of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our 1st message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)
Little Bay De Noc: Attention Anglers: The zone where only one walleye greater than 23-inches can be retained in the daily ownership bound was extended south from the Ford River to the Bark River. So efficient now, no more than one walleye over 23-inches can be possessed in the daily bound north of a line drawn from Peninsula Point Lighthouse to the mouth of the Bark River. Walleye anglers stated few catches in the southern waters. Some fish were caught around the Black Bottom when using stick baits or crawler harnesses in 20 to 30 feet from the Narrows to Gladstone Beach in 14 to 28 feet. Perch anglers stated good catches when they could find them. (petoskeynews.com)
Little Bay De Noc: Walleye have migrated up into the northern parts of the Bay and catch rates were just. Anglers that fished before sunrise or at dusk did best between the 1st Reef and the Black Bottom when trolling stick baits in 8 to 30 feet of water along the reefs and the east bank. Northern pike were active as some number of big fish were caught by those trolling crank baits or stick baits straight out from the coal piles near Gladstone. Attempt 12 to 23 feet of water. Good smallmouth catches stated during the Bay particularly off Hunter’s Point and Squaw Point. (mlive.com)
Winter is well under way and you surely have to pick your days and times to fish. The fish are less violent, both with the bite and the fight. Nothing better than a warm / foggy night to turn on a bite although. As temperatures climb in the winter, us steelheaders generally get excited and can not wait to go fishing. A warm stretch can give them the poke they have to start moving a bit, but it may also ruin fishing conditions and create big ice goes. So far this year I have seen ice thicknesses more than 10 inches and a basketball size chunk could because some great ache. Some ice chunks I have seen are 500 to 1, 000 pounds in size and to get hit by one would not be much different than to get hit by a car. (northernsteeloutfitters.com)
Well here we’re New Years Eve and let me tell you it’s down right COLD outside! All good things must come to an end and this will clearly be the last chapter or report if you’ll for 2013. We have had extreme cold temperatures early this year. With the temps fish have pushed back and or held off and we have a ton of ice with some anchor ice in particular places. We did have one day where temperatures soared into the low thirty's and we made the best of it. To get out for some hours and landing two small steelies and Brandon loosing a toad. The flies that made were small stones black in color as we’re upon the time for the early black stone to start showing its self. (caddisshack.net)
The water cleared up enough that anglers were fishing on the Canadian side. Catch rates were just to good along the northern half as well as some bound catches. The better fishing was near the casino, whiskey plant and salt mines on the Canadian side. just to good fishing between the Renaissance Center and the Ambassador Bridge, around Belle Isle, the east side of Grosse Ile and near the mouth of Lake Erie. More anglers are bottom bouncing crawler harnesses or hand-lining spoons and stick baits. Those aiming at muskie caught zero to three fish per ship. Those fishing off the Trenton rotating Park and Belanger Park caught a good number of white bass right with some big or smallmouth bass, muskie, freshwater drum and white perch. (keweenawreport.com)
We fish the Northern tip of Lake Michigan, out of the ports of Fairport and Manistique. Called the 2 best ports for Salmon in Northern Lake Michigan, each port has own benefits based on the season. Trolling widens of Spoons, Flasher and Fly combo s, and Herring rigs, we use the boats electronics to find the temperature breaks and schools of hungry Salmon. We use a mix of Downriggers and Wire Divers, with suspended wire lines and drop weights, to reach the fish that are down deep. Lead Core Line and Slide Divers were used to target fish far away from the ship and higher in the water column. (daybreakfish.com)
