Manasquan County Reservoir was intended with anglers in mind. When the lake was being constructed, stumps were left at the bottom of the reservoir and trees were preserved at the water’s edge to offer fish with an ideal habitat. Upon completion of the reservoir, it was stocked with largemouth bass and smallmouth bass by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Bob Papson, a biologist at the state’s Lebanon Fishery Laboratory, has been involved in the walleye stocking program since its rebirth in 1988; no doubt spurred on by fishermen returning from trips to Canada with stories of morning catches followed by lakeside fish fry lunches. We put nearly two million walleye fry into Monksville in the 1st two years it opened, Papson says. We were to get fry from wherever we could to get the program started because fishermen were starting to ask for them. Now, we are putting bigger fingerlings into our lakes and reservoirs. we are generally trying to offer a diversity of fishing opportunities for our state’s fishermen. (njskylands.com)
On the side from smallmouth bass, tiger muskie may also put on a small nice acrobatic show. But what they’re really recognized for tested my expertise as an angler and my light tackle gear to its bound. There were times throughout the fight that I thought my 20lb mono leader was as thin as kids’s dental floss, however the Trilene Big Game mono persevered again helping me keep my 6lb Suffix and Gamakatsu 4/0 Octopus hook locked into those chainsaw like jaws.
