Following the cases an Agency spokesperson commented: ‘The earning from rod permit sales is re-invested in enhancements to fisheries. Our licences are good value, and can cost as little as 3. 25. By cheating the system these offenders are depriving their fellow anglers of much-needed earning. Downstream of the Neptune shaft there’s a timber and stone box draw off culvert 300mm x 460mm that runs to the base of the downstream embankment and discharges via a brick headwall into a feeder channel. The reservoir had been drawn down in 2009 to fix the timber plug and system related with the Neptune shaft, and again in November 2011 when a CCTV survey of the outlet was undertaken. The condition of the culvert was important as its main importance, separately from acting as a feeder to the canal, was as an Emergency Drawdown building. The reservoir has a particular onsite Emergency Drawdown Plan EDP and inside this there’s a prerequisite to drawdown water levels by 50 inside five days. (wwtonline.co.uk)

We spent a week in this lovely cottage. There was wine and flowers to greet us, milk in the fridge, tea and biscuits and treats for the dogs. The cottage was totally modernized. It’s comfy and spacious and delightfully furnished. There’s a balcony over looking the river and when the weather is kind you may be able to watch dippers bobbing and grey wagtails feeding on the rocks. There are lots of walks from the cottage though the footpath signs tend to vanish just when you need them most . The bird life is amazing – you wake to a cacophony of birdsong from 1st light. We saw nearly 90 species in a week. (qualitycottages.com)
You may be able to take from town to the foothills of the Brecon Beacons via a ruined castle, returning along the good looking Taff Trail. En path you will pass rushing rivers and waterfalls, Iron Age settlements and bluebell-splashed woodland. The path’s pretty level, taking the course of an old tramway, however sooner or later it traverses open moorland, meadow and a disused quarry. The views, across the mirror-calm Llwyn Onn reservoir, are sensational. Handily, about halfway around the path you will come upon the Aberglais Inn at Pontsarn: just in time for a well-earned refuel.
