‘My Lowrance electronics will play big in this event. I plan to use up more time graphing and driving around then really fishing. I have two HDS-12s on the console and a 10 on the bow. On open-water fisheries like this, I’ll run conventional sonar on one console screen and mapping on the other; that lets me to be the most economical. Other than my electronics, I could say my Ranger ship and Mercury Pro XS will be my most crucial pieces of equipment. You are going to need a big-fish spot to contend and those regions are far away from those slot regions. It is big water; there are going to be lots of miles put on by lots of guys. Walleye anglers from all over the Midwest know that Little Bay de Noc and Big Bay de Noc are two of the best places on Earth to ship a trophy-sized walleye. From the beginning of the season in May, the weedy shallows of the bay are loaded with hungry, hard-biting musky with particularly good action at night. But there s more to fishing Little Bay de Noc than just walleyes. Early spring sees an invasion of trout, just after the thaw, while perch may be found around the bay s drop-offs during the season, with whitefish and splake. Head a bit up the Escanaba River for excellent bass action, and make sure to come back after the freeze for great ice fishing. (More info)
Walleyes. Anywhere you go off shore to get to those depths can create walleyes. Needless to say, some places are better than others. If you’re restricted to walking, you may be able to get to some decent fishing by walking a short distance out from the Gladstone harbor. If you have motorized transportation, attempt structure fishing on humps and reefs for smaller fish 15"-22", and attempt fishing deep flats for big suspended fish. (fishidy.com)
Caters to anglers with fish-cleaning buildings and a prime place just south of Gladstone. It has an early 60s feel and a colorful history as a 1930s dance hall. Walleyes may be found cruising the 10- to 20-foot contours and will move into water as shallow as 5 feet in the evenings. Afterward in the winter, follow the walleye schools to the south end of the lake where you may be able to find water in extra of 45 feet. A nice part of structure extends along the east shoreline there and you may be able to intercept walleye schools working the break. Fall fishing is done most of the time in the inner bay. I call this time of year "Trophy Time" because your chances are better to catch that 10 pounder. The reason for this is, those Big Boys cruised around the major lake all summer feeding on high protein alewifes and other bait fish. They come back to the bay to feed before ice-up and also stage for the spawn in the spring again. (fishingfevercharter.com)
Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman. Com started as a group of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our 1st message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)
. Anglers are fishing as far south as Portage Point, however open water starts around the Breezy Point so use caution in these regions. Ice conditions were good in the northern bay, however not as good near Portage Point. Saunders Point had a big area of open water that just froze over and was considered dangerous. Walleye catches were stated during the bay, however the southern waters were best. Anglers stated just action at the Escanaba ship docks or just south of the Escanaba River in 18 to 22 feet of water. Some number of big pike also were stated in this area. Just numbers of perch were being caught between the second and 3rd reefs. (outdoornews.com)
But while trolling patterns predominate everywhere else on the Great Lakes, Glorvigen — ever the Minnesotan — works big 5- to 7-inch redtail chubs on livebait rigs and jigs on points and along breakwalls outside the river mouth. Likewise, U. P. Walleye pro and guide Nate Provost, Gulliver, Michigan, depends on redtails on Little Bay de Noc throughout the last gasp of open water, around reefs and points that gather walleyes outside their spring spawning grounds on the inner bay and in the Escanaba River. Many of the best pike fisheries are in the Great Lakes or connecting waters—the St. Marys River in Munuscong Bay Lake or anyplace in Potaganassing Bay off Drummond Island—but pike are found in the most of Upper Peninsula lakes. I had an remaining day with Scott some years ago fishing Victoria Reservoir in Ontonagon County. And I had a pretty just day on pike in Deer Lake, outside of Ishpeming, some years back when we caught 18—while we were fishing for walleyes. (outdoorhub.com)
