Heronbrook is one of Staffordshire’s leading coarse fisheries and fast becoming one of the best match and pleasure fishing venues in the country. On 3 December a detachment under Lord George Murray passed through Leek on its way to Ashbourne. The major force with the prince arrived in Leek afterward the same day and took up quarters there, the prince staying at the house afterward called Foxlowe of William Mills, a lawyer. The Quaker meeting house was broken into and used as a stable. The troops started to leave for Ashbourne and Derby in the small hours of the fourth. Some stayed behind and tried to seize the horses of people coming to the market; two of the soldiers were arrested and sent to Stafford gaol. This site is beside the Churnet Valley Railway so it’s great fun to see the steamers trundle pass. It’s a short walk from the Caldon canal which offers an very nice walk or cycle towards Froghall Wharf which is steeped in industrial revolution period history as is the whole area . Before you reach Froghall a visit to the Black Lion at Consall station is a nice walk. In the other direction you may be able to cycle to Ethuria of Stoke pottery business fame or for a short trip to the Hollybush Pub on the canal, located just outside of Cheddleton. So it was a pretty calm day for Stoke. We did the important thing which was to keep Jon Walters at the club he is taken it well and while it was unfortunate not get Mile Jedinak in it is not the end of the world.
