Lake Wallenpaupack Fishing Guides

Kevin and his group of five friends from the state of Delaware came to Lake Wallenpaupack for some late February ice fishing. With the surprising warmth of this winter season the ice is waning fast and this trip in all reality could end short, however productive Legends Outdoors ice fishing season. Kevin organized this trip and had it planned for some time so they were thrilled to get the trip in and the excitement was in the air for these six anglers that included five science teachers and a banker in the group. Lake Wallenpaupack best "trophy" fisheries in Pennsylvania for some species.   Striped Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, Walleye, Brown Trout, and the sporadic Northern Pike are all present in trophy sizes in the lake usually referred to by locals as "The Pack". I believe the next state record Brown Trout will come from the Wallenpaupack as there are some number of browns over 15lbs. Caught yearly and I am sure one surpassing the 20lb. My son and I were here in July for a weekend vacation, then came back again for the fishing in October. Both times we chartered fishing trips with Trophy Guide Service. Sparky was our guide and the trip was well worth every penny we paid. In July we went for Striper and caught some big ones, also as one that got away but felt bigger on the line than any of the others we caught. In October we came back for Musky. We did not land any of them but my son caught a big smallmouth bass the second biggest one he is ever caught and he hooked a big walleye, however that one ran under the ship and cut the line on the prop before we could land it. I have fished The Pack many times, however not in quite awhile. But I have generally had good luck on the dam side of the lake. Shuman’s point is good for striper’s, then the area of Epply island is good for smalies. I also fish the Caffrey area, both from the shore and ship for smalies. If from the shore, I’d toss some power worms in blue or black off the docks. The area of red rock which is just down the lake from the caffrey there is a nice sized weed bed that I’d also toss some power worms into. I have never had any luck up the other end near Ledgedale But a cousin of mine caught a MONSTER channel cat up there. (bassresource.com)

Largemouth bass may be found in high abundance during many parts of Lake Wallenpaupack. Fishermen aiming at this species should target the northern and southwestern points of the lake. These regions sprawl into regions of concentrated vegetation that supply the perfect habitat for largemouth bass populations. During these regions, fishermen should cast lines in regions near big rocks, drop offs, weed beds, submerged timber, and under overhanging tree limbs. Imitation shad, jigs, topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are all excellent tackle choices.  Look for feeding fish near the grass beds in the southern coves of Lake Wallenpaupack. There’s nothing I could change about my career…. In fact I think about that all the time. Everything I have done has made me who I’m today. From the trout fishing days in PA to wading the Susquehanna River with my dad as a kid, to taking my girlfriend now wife to compete in tournaments with me at Lake Wallenpaupack to really see what I do to grow an appreciation for it……. The house has 3 levels to help give everyone a place to call their own. The loft has the Chalk board Door which all kids like to write messages on. The major level has an open floor plan that makes it an easy place to gather with friends and family. The screened in room with gas grill makes cooking easy. Downstairs has a table that sits 10, a cedar chest filled with games and a TV room which is great to watch movies at night. The 2010 season comes to an end on July 29th. In general we had a good summer catching fish. Joey caught the biggest bass which calculated 16 inches. We fished in some tough weather conditions this summer. Rain and the heat didn’t slow us down we still caught fish. We fished at a private pond that had big sunnies, bass, and over 100 golden rainbow trout. We fished a new spot this summer, the Freemansburg canal. We caught a bunch of sunnies and one catfish at the canal. I could like to thank the helpers, my helper Ed, the bus drivers, the students who took the class, their parents, the parents or relatives who went fishing with us and the owner of the private pond. I was born in Plainfield, NJ in 1968. Our family moved to a lakefront home on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania where my brother Jeff and I fished all we could. After graduating from college in 1988 with a degree in building construction from Johnson College in Scranton, Pa, I moved to Naples, FL.
