This storied bass fishery was a favorite destination of multispecies anglers as far back as 1907 when a cottage retreat was built on Crane Island. Bass were long considered pesky rodents that got in the way of more precious game fish like walleye and pike. Now, but, Micropterus is a major attraction. Anglers can expect unbelievable numbers of 3- to 5-pound largemouth and smallmouth bass. If you fish a tournament there, expect 25 pounds to win. Though this lake gets more pressure than some of the smaller waters in the neighborhood, its 14, 000-plussurface acres continue to produce like crazy. (bassmaster.com)
Bill Slaughter and I park at The Chainsaw Sisters on Mudro Lake and drop in a canoe. We make some portages and wind down the Horse River to the big waterfall that signals we have reached bent Lake. It is a long day’s journey over many portages we have sworn we’d never cross again caused by their difficulty, however after some months you forget the agony and pencil the trip onto the calendar again. Not only can you find nonstop walleye action on bent Lake, however the monster smallmouth bass are there also. (gameandfishmag.com)
At the other extreme, adult bass eat things as small as almost microscopic water fleas Daphnia, subsisting on them for months when bigger prey are scarce. Field Editor Ned Kehde is a finesse tactician, frequently found on Kansas’ hard-fished public impoundments wielding a 1/16- or 1/32-oz jighead with a 21⁄2-inch part of a Strike King Zero. He likes action and frequently tallies dozens of bass in a short outing. But he on a regular basis accounts for bass from 3 to almost 6 pounds on these tiny offerings. (discoverboating.com)
One of the many variables you ll be dealing with on a river is current. CURRENT IS YOUR FRIEND. Current will let you, in many cases, to target the probably regions that bass will set up and hold. Bass will generally face into the current and be looking upstream. In many cases they ll hold just out of the current and go into the current to pick off a fast meal as it comes by. The front end of the point, that area facing up stream, is usually deeper than the back end of the point. The front of the point may be a cut bank and more productive than the back end of the point. The back end of the point is usually longer and tappers off gradually into deeper water. (1source.basspro.com)

The approach stayed consistent for Friday as the two headed directly to the spots they knew had good-sized slot fish. After catching 20 walleyes in the 1st hour and a half, Team Flemming had 3 slot walleyes over 16 in their live well. The duo went to a 100yd stretch Flemming knew was a sweet spot for bigger walleye and marked a bunch of fish. At 10:30am, Flemming spotted his rod go down. After netting the walleye, the two calculated the walleye, which could be the biggest fish caught in the tournament, to be 29 . Flemming shared that he caught the big fish on a #3 Baby Walleye Spinner from Jolly Roger Takle with a night crawler. (team503.com)

Sorry about the late notice. I was on family vacation to Mount Rushmore. By the way, if you have not been, I propose you may want to go. So this sunday june 29 we’ll be on Lake Marion. Just like every other lake in the metro it’s no wake now. Which is good because that means no tubers or wakeboard boats. So what we’ll do is start some minutes early at 6:15 so everyone has a chance to put-put their way out to their spot and we’ll end a little afterward at 12:00 noon so everyone has a chance to put-put their way back. We need everyone to follow the no-wake ordinance so we don’t have any problems with any lake homeowners. (basspursuit.com)
Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie are called the Santee Cooper lakes for the two rivers they impound. These two reservoirs in South Carolina’s Low Country cover 174, 000 acres and are part of a navigable inland channel that extends more than 100 miles from Columbia to Charleston. The 6. 5-mile Diversion Canal connects the two lakes. You know you are in serious fishing country when the billboard across the I-95 bridge welcoming you to the Santee Cooper lakes shows a gigantic striped bass with the funny caption: Not quite real size. The lakes are fishable all year because they never freeze. A fish hatchery is on Lake Moultrie. (lakelubbers.com)
