‘This little exposed from the tempt is what I believe you want. When you troll by them, those dodgers call them into look, then they see that hoochie or spinner or whatever you’re using, then there is that little dangling part of white corn. I think that is just the last part for them to hit…. They are violent little buggers and I’d like to give them a target back there to grab. ‘. (columbian.com)
In May and June the fish will follow the water temperature line down deeper into the lake. As the water warms, the fish will go deeper and deeper. For this reason you will have to fish deeper than you did before. Using a quality depth finder is an easy way of aiming at the fish. If you do not have one fish at different depths till you find them. Also, as the water warms, the fish will move to the east end of Merwin where new and cooler water enters from the upper Lewis River. Fishing for kokanee may be done many different ways. Jigging, trolling, and casting are most well-liked. Trolling will be the simplest way in Merwin and Yale caused by their size. (fishingaddictsnorthwest.com)
My go big kokes is a crystal basin wee tad or apex with changed out leader, hooks, and beads 30 inches behind a 6″ UV sling blade for hooks I use a double hook rig composed of gamaktsu #2 red octopus style hooks. For beads either white glow, red glow, or pink glow radical glow beads either two 5mm beads or one 8m bead. For the leader I retie it with 10LB P-Line fluoraclear. For cosistantly hooking quality fish i go to a #3 or #4 sling blade I tend to lean toward a #4 watermelon black diamond with a nickel or copper back then for leader a 18-8 inch leader too an R&K hoochie, humdinger, or spinner in whatever color fits the conditions but you may want to generally start with whatever color fits with the conditions on one side and a pink and pearl R&K hoochie on the other the pink and pearl R&K hoochie was the best producer of quality fish for me over 5 years of chasing these landlocked sockeye$. Lake Lenore will have quite some less Lahontan cutthroat trout in it this spring. WDFW game wardens Will Smith and Chris Buschings busted four men last week with 242 of the big cutthroat trout. The men seemingly netted the trout out of a fish trap in the black and were loading them in a plastic fish tote when the wardens rolled up. One of the men jumped in the Toyota Tundra they were driving but was blocked by the warden s rig and ordered to surrender at gun point. Another one of them gave up quickly and the two other men jumped in the lake and swam for it. One of them was caught holding onto a log to blend in with the surroundings and the 4th individual swam across the lake and disappeared. (theoutdoorline.com)
The summer salmon fishery on the lower river was scheduled to end Tuesday, however fishery managers from Washington and Oregon have expanded the season to July 31. The daily bound is one adult chinook per day, down from two. Chinook counts by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife are closing in on a record. Through Sunday, the count was 70, 714, the most since the 1957 count showed 76, 538 fish. Ship anglers averaged 5 bass per rod in the Bonneville Pool last week. Sturgeon-fishing effort was light. The action was just this week. People are catching some fish from Gig Harbor down to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Attempt fishing throughout the slack tide using a Point Wilson Dart used as a free sliding system. Crabbing in Marine Area 11 Tacoma opened Friday. Now, move your pots around till you find crab, instead of soaking them all day in one place. Also attempt fishing deeper, starting around 150 feet deep. Early reports point to there are limitations to be caught. (bellinghamherald.com)
Editor s note: Today s editorial first appeared in The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Editorial content from other publications is made available to give readers a sampling of regional and national opinion and doesn’t essentially reflect positions endorsed by the Editorial Board of The Daily News. In all likelihood, the challenge posed by the U. S. Prison at Guantanamo Bay will be left to President Barack Obama s replacement. That s because members of Congress are adamant that none of the 91 inmates held at Guantanamo should be moved to prisons on U. S. Territory. (tdn.com)
Kokanee will strike on all manner of gear: bait, spinners, spoons, plastic squid or hootchies, flies, strings of beads. Nearly generally, but, these offerings are tipped with either maggots or a kind of corn called shoepeg corn — and nobody knows why either helps. Most of the time these bait-tipped lures are fished behind a small nickel- or brass-finish metal attractor blade like a dodger or wobbler, or a series of wobblers called pop gear. (seattlepi.com)
Washington’s Region 5 is peppered with trout lakes and ponds. There are some river fishing opportunities, however most trout anglers target the stocked lakes and ponds. There are good lakes in urban Vancouver and Longview, and lots of lakes out in the country. There are some excellent lakes along the Columbia River Gorge, as well as Rowland Lake, a favorite of Legendary Gorge fisherman Buzz Ramsey of Yakima Baits. The lake gets placed with rainbows and triploids, and some bonus brood trout up to 10 pounds when available. ‘After they have been in the lake for a while, those brood rainbows get to looking like steelhead, ‘ says Ramsey.
