MD s harvest from what was established through last fall coast-large reduction has be indefinitely tabled. In reality it was tabled till the 2016 stock evaluation update was finished by the technical board. A good thing for us in the Northeast. MD charterboats are struggling with the reductions because the fish in Chesapeake Bay are usually smaller than the size bound they fish under. There were a couple technical issues address by the Board in the Bay to bring VA & MD rules in line with each other. . (obsessioncharters.com)
Seguin Island located two miles off the mouth of the Kennebec has more fog than any other place in Maine. Frequently that fog adventures up into the mouth of the river, making navigation perilous at times. A knowledgeable guide is compulsory the 1st time out on the river. Experienced boaters use LoranC or GPS to map a safe course through the channel. Deep water of 30 feet is frequently just some yards away from sloping mud flats, so watch your sounder closely, in good weather. (nesportsman.com)
Considerable tidal variation in structure gives for a diverse fishing opportunities. Everything from sight fishing to dredging the rips with Depth Charge lines may be done on any given day. The rugged beauty of the rocky coast, the miles of pristine beaches and the wooded shores of the mighty Kennebec set the tone for a world class fishing trip. Throughout the months of May & June the Kennebec is catch and release only some of the best striped bass fishing on the East Coast. July – September striped bass fly fishing is excellent. In July the bluefish show up along the coastal islands and beaches with school sized footballs bluefin tuna offshore. (orvis.com)
This morning we untied the ship and cruised downriver to prospect for fish that we suspected could be feeding in the fast ebbing tide…I did not take too long before we were tight to the 1st fish, a healthy ocean bright fish that slammed a RonZ jig that we were skipping off the bottom near a big sandbar. We covered a bunch of water today and not amazingly we had the best action when we found warmer water and a mix of Britt herring and alewives. It is still early in the striper season here in Maine but we’re underway. Info that I will offer this week are to get out and fish the outgoing tides in the tidal rivers…look for regions of warmer water and work the methodically. (superfly-charters.com)
Striped Bass are spread out in Casco Bay from Harpswell to Portland in good numbers water temps are good to go, the outer islands fish may be found but seem to be on the move in search of the bait that’s either dropping out of the local river systems or traveling up for spawning. This bait will be bright and flashy as it approaches the rivers but will turn a more yellowish tint as it spends some time in the brackish water 5-7 inch bait fish patterns are working well and can’t express having some long pauses in your strip if you’re in the center of a surface feed, , pause it — let it get down into the mix and chances are you find yourself find some bigger fish. The Solon part of the Kennebec River is recognized for its Brown Trout. With miles of undercut banks, braided channels and islands this part is a structure fisherman’s dream. Early morning you may be throwing streamers tight to the banks in a side channel, and afterward the same day casting dryflys to increasing Brown Trout in long slicks. This part of the Kennebec gives opportunity to catch four trout species all in the same day. The float is 7 miles long and gives a remote setting all inside a 2 hour drive from Portland. . If you want to fish this part, fish it from the west shore a least down to Carry Brook. Most of the west part has a ledge that gives a fast exit path when the water rises up to grab you. Don’t drive into the dam area and attempt to fish the river on the east side. It’s dangerous!! You may want to think about wearing a life jacket or an inflatable wading vest. I nearly generally wear an inflatable wading vest regardless what water I am wading as well as the surf From Carry Brook on down to the Forks you may be able to fish either side wherever you may be able to get to it, however beware of the water fluctuations! Just above the Forks you will find good Brook Trout fishing around the mouth of either Cold Stream or Moxie Stream. (maineflyfishing.com)

Kennebec River angler guides and their guests had a great weekend fishing. We spent Sunday and Monday in the Kennebec River Gorge, Fly fishing. Both days made good size brookies and salmon. Salmon seemed to be a more abundant on Sunday. The hatches were light, olive caddis, green apple caddis both made an appearence. We had great luck with the old standby, green woolie buggers. We also did well with stimulator up front, small caddis emerger as a trailer. Andre’s Run was on FIRE, we landed 8 good size fish in less than 15 miunutes. Salmon were practically jumping in the ship. In general a great couple of days. (kennebecriverangler.com)
