Called one of the top trout streams in western New York, Ischua offers February fishing on a 2. 2-mile stretch at Franklinville in eastern Cattaraugus County. No-kill, artificials-only trout fishing is focused on the Cadiz bridge south of the village. The special rules part runs for 0. 9 mile downstream from the path 98 bridge and for 1. 3 miles upstream from the bridge. The creek averages about 30 feet large here and is favored by local fishermen primarily because of its easy access and generous stocking allocation received. Anglers can expect a chunky holdover brown or two. (Check this link right here now)
Opening of trout season expands the region s trout fishing beyond Lake Ontario and a choose set of big lakes, to the rest of the region s great range of big and small streams, ponds and lakes. Region 6 will include the Western Adirondacks, Tug Hill, and the big Black, Mohawk and St. Lawrence River valleys. The region’s large diversity of water types supply habitat for everything from small headwater brook trout to big deepwater lake trout. This year s weather is leading towards some early season high water in streams as the vast amounts of snow continue to melt. also, cold temperatures have been lingering and may push back open water fishing on many of the regions high altitude Adirondack trout ponds. When I’m the beds I like to use up some time east of the path 9P bridge and ship launch in the neighborhood called Fish Creek. This is a three to four mile stretch varying in width from some number of hundred yards large narrowing down to 30-40 yards in some places. Most of it’s lined on both sides by lily pads and weeds and those big bass do spawn under these pads or weeds. Starting from mid-May on into June I catch some real trophy largemouth by tossing a rubber frog on a 7-foot heavy action rod and a reel filled with 25-pound test line over the tops of these weeds. This spring frogging also has worked for me on all the waters I mentioned earlier. (adirondackoutdoorsmagazine.com)
Next year, the Saratoga County Water Authority will use up $270, 000 on fish habitat enhancements on the Kayaderosseras Creek. The work will strategically built rock formations to alter water flow at about five spots in the creek to enhance conditions for trout. At Kelley Park in Ballston Spa, the aim is to eliminate wearing away that occurs and create calm pooling regions in the creek for fish. In Milton’s Rock City Falls Park, a dam will be partially dismantled to create a fish ladder. (saratogian.com)
One last pattern that works well for smallmouths in the early part of the season is to fish the fences. during most of the Great Sacandaga Lake shoreline are some old farm stone fences that were covered with water when the lake was flooded years ago. It typically isn t too hard to find these fences. If you look along the shoreline, parts of these fences are us ually observable on the shore, and you may be able to see exactly where they enter the water. These underwater$. (Visit this website)
Moved to Saratoga from St Louis MO home of The Gateway Arch, Baseball Cardinals and Anheuser-Busch with my family for my husband’s job. In the last 2 1/2 years we have had the chance to explore and discover day trips, hidden gems, with some of the most beautiful, historic, interesting and inquisitive places in New England. So come with me and look through a Midwesterner’s eyes at Saratoga and beyond. I hope you enjoy your adventures and feel free to share yours and together we can feed our travel bug. (saratoga.com)
. Sitting somewhat southeast of Saratoga Springs and encompassing the borders of three towns: Malta, Saratoga and Stillwater, Saratoga Lake is officially located at 43 3′ N latitude and 73 43′ W longitude. Fed by the Kayderosseras Creek we call it the Kaydeross from the northwest and emptying via Fish Creek at the north end of the lake, the water drains from Fish Creek finally into the Hudson River at Schuylerville. Thankfully, the high water events I experienced were more of a temporary bother than a catastrophe. The good these seasonal floods do is frequently overlooked by the inconvenienced. They re-sculpt, recharge and usually rejuvenate the streams they effect by flushing away accumulated silt and depositing it in the bordering fields and wetlands, washing in nutrients, deepening or digging new channels and piling fallen trees, creating new habitat for fish and their prey to use. Without snow packs to offer a supply of cold runoff, stream temperatures can rise too high and fatally stress trout that need the cooler water. (saratogatodaynewspaper.com)
I parked at the chosen lot for the trail head which was 700 ft more south on the road. I had this crazy notion to take a short hike across the bog to find the curved ROW heading northward. Throughout any other season, this short jaunt could be be impossible caused by the thick mud and standing water but being a cold winter day, it was frozen so I charged in. Well the ice broke a couple of times and I had to struggle to yank my water-logged muddy boot out of the swamp gunk but I made it to where the ROW was. Sadly it was hardly worth it. Though the ROW is obviously observable from satellite maps, it was only unclearly discernible up close. (vizettes.com)
Agree with all your observations. I’ve fished it nearly as long as you and lived on the lake for more than 20 years. I’m pretty sure that I was the 1st person to use a sonar unit on the lake back in the 70s and found nirvana – no have to go to Cananda, it had everything. Over the years that lake went through some number of big changes, milfoil, new sewer system, zebra musssles, etc that have altered the species placement but the last change chemicals has done a big time hurt on the fish. Is is still fun to fish? Can you still find some quality catches with savvy? Sure, however back in the 70’s I could drift Mannings with an in-line spinner and pick up 20 northerns in an afternoon, not anymore. (iceshanty.com)
